Att fixed wireless doesn't work for gaming

I just got Att fixed wireless installed today I'm trying to get away from hughesnet and wanting to do some online gaming I was very specific when ordering telling the sales lady I wanted to play online... the speeds are great but the modem won't even allow my Xbox one any internet and ive spent most of the day on the phone with different att techs and looking on forums the Xbox says it's connected but NAT  is strict and there isn't a way to change it also Xbox says UPnP not successful

Hello @Ronniechapman18,

The most likely cause of this issue is your NAT setting on the XBOX.  It needs to eb changed from Strict to Common.  Here are the instructions;

  • Press the Xbox button.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select Restart Console.  Confirm the restart by selecting Yes.
  • After the unit restarts, press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select All Settings.
  • Select Network.
  • Select Network Settings.  Under Current Network Status change the NAT type to Common.

For more information visit our XBOX Open NAT page.

Thank you for using the Community Forums, and have a great weekend!

Please educate yourself if you are going to answer for the company you work for. Fixed Wireless and Mobile Hotspots will not allow you to open the NAT type. This is in the Mobile Network itself, and can only be adjusted if the service provider decides that it wants to.

I have a similar problem.  I found out through a ping test that I had all sort of jitter on my internet connection.  Not sure if XBox can do a ping test with jitter as part of the results.  Nonetheless, I haven't found a solution yet.

Has this issue been addressed yet. I would be very interested to know. Major service issue if it hasn't. You definitely can't game on satellite internet because of latencies. This really sowers the pot if you don't have game with this service because of the NAT

I copied and pasted this: Gaming is now the world’s favorite form of entertainment, as the gaming industry generated more revenue last year than TV, movies, and music did.

Just checking in: Did this issue get solved? We were also thinking about getting ATT fixed wireless.  The thing is that we are currently doing Xbox and computer gaming through a similar setup with Verizon.

In our case each family member has a cell phone plan with Verizon (expensive with 4 people) and we connect our Xboxes to our Moto cell phone hotspots. It's been working above expectations.

We get Upnp failure as well but can still do multiplayer and chatgroups etc.

In my opinion ATT fixed wireless is almost the same setup, except all units in the house are hooked up through one 'router' in turn connected to the cell phone tower.

Anyhow, any solution to this problem since posting?

You don’t need to have open nat type. I play fortnite, COD and Apex over my home wireless LTe. I actually have a Double NAT type, but still chat with friends and play without any issues.  The only way to get to where you can DNS or use IP Passthrough would be to pay for a business account.

I have fixed wireless connection and have strict NAT type, any help because its starting to get to the point i HAVE to play solo because i cant chat in a party with anyone, we cant join games with one another, and on occasion connection drops. I play on PS4 if that changes anything. at all. Any help?

You have to set up another router using ip passthrough. ATT gateway routers do not allow the use of uPNP.  I have to use another router behind the gateway because my xbox, security system, and Hue lights all need uPNP to function properly and ATT does not allow it. I just turn off the ATT wifi and use the wifi of the other router. Everything works and open NAT on two xbox ones!

could you explain that setup a bit better or direct me to a place that can explain it to me? I can't even GET to the Gamehouse site much less play the games there. I can get there with my verizon hotspot though.  It was fine yesterday. Also will this correct the "secure website" issue folks are having as well? I have a simple netgear router. Do I need something more robust than that?
