Problems using att.net account using app

Cannot send or receive emails with Gmail  since yesterday and settings had not changed.  Gmail keeps asking for credentials for my att.net address.  No problems using the web to do so.  My husband has the same problem with his iphone, ipad and Outlook 365.

Let's get your email working properly again, @Judyhill.

Since you are able to log in when using a web browser, you’ll have to use either OAuth or a secure mail key to get your email through a desktop program or email app. This is due to enhanced security of  the AT&T Mail which encrypts your username and password to protect your information from hackers and fraudsters.

Try this and let us know if it helps or if you still need further assistance with this.

Unless this enhanced security just started on Friday, I don't see how that can be the problem.  Also, from what I have read, Gmail uses Oauth.

Since OAuth is no longer working, try a secure mail key and let us know if it helped or not.

@Judyhill I'm waiting to hear if using a secure mail key on Gmail app worked for you.  I think I tried that a few days ago with no success, but will try again if it works for you.

It's fairly obvious from that ATT has changed something recently to cause this disruption.  The web browser sign in screen is different than the way I used to access my email account and the Gmail app quit working all about the same time.  At first I thought it was a Gmail app update causing the problem, but now I'm thinking it's on ATT's end since the webmail sign in has changed also.

I do not plan to try the secure key.  I would like to know why my gmail connection using imap.mail.att.net server suddenly stopped working.

Hi there @Judyhill We appreciate the update.

The changes to the email security has been fairly recent and it might work to try to create a secure mail key to correct the connection.

You can also try to sign in using Currently. Letting us know if you have the same credential error with that.

@ATTHelp. Just curious why it's necessary to use secure mail key with Gmail app which supports OAuth protocol?

I removed my att.net email from gmail.  Then instead of setting it up using the imap server, I set it up as a Yahoo account.  That accepted my credentials and I am receiving emails through gmail now.
