Cannot Add att.net Email Account to Apple Mail App

I'm so frustrated right now!!! I cannot add my att.net email account to the Apple Mail App for the iPhone. It was on my phone until last Monday (May 18). I have been bounced around AT&T for over a week. I was referred to Apple Support & they referred me back to AT&T. Apple Support told the problem is with the AT&T email servers. She also said this is a known issue. I just need someone at AT&T to look at my account and fix this problem. My last contact was on Friday with someone via a Chat session, issue is still not resolved!!!

Hey @libragirl75,

We understand that you're having trouble with your email account. Don't worry, we can help with that.

What error message are you seeing?

Also, we would suggest changing you password. Please let us known if that helps.

My wife is experiencing the same problem. She could not use her AT&T email on her iPad and iPhone all of a sudden. Everything worked normal till the morning of December 5th,2020. I've tried everything to get it to accept her email address. Everytime I go to set the email settings it goes to a prompt  to change password. After changing the password it ends up giving me the same prompt to change password again. It's a vicious loop. I've talked to Apple and AT&T and can't come up with something to resolve this issue. Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.

My Mom was getting an error from the Mail app on her iPhone 11 that her att.net mail could not be updated because the password was incorrect.  She tried re-entering the password but that didn't work.  So I had her try to add her att mailbox using the procedure here https://www.att.com/support/smallbusiness/article/smb-email-support/KM1189366/ and that seemed to work.

My wife is having the same problem.  Her att.net email on an Apple iPhone 12 native Mail quit working on March 12. 5 hours with ATT support and 10 passwords later we are very frustrated.  Infinite loop at add account/yahoo!/user name/ password/ att add personal password/ back to yahoo input user name and password/ att add personal password...  forever.  The same email address on Outlook on the PC quit at the same time.  Creating a Oauth key did not fix it. The above link did not work for us.  Created a new email account and got the same behavior.  Four other ATT email accounts are still working in outlook and Apple iPhone under the same master account as sub accounts.   Help!!

I am having the same problem as all of the above.  I have spent hours trying every solution suggested.  ATT cannot help either and they sent me to a pay support tech.   I refuse to pay someone when this is obviously an ATT problem and they have no solution.  There are a lot of people with the same problem.   I am using Apple Mail in Catalina.  It is suppose to have OAuth.  I hate using Web mail with Yahoo and if this is not solved soon I am leaving ATT and their horrible Support.

I have been having the same problem. I have been on the phone with ATT and they could not help and searching the internet for 2 days.

This is what I figured out. Referring to the message above posted by pholonitch, he explained everything correctly except his example was an android and ours are iPhones. pholonitch went into his existing email setup to change the servers to yahoo.com. For our problem we have deleted our mail account and are setting it up again. So here is what I did: during setup I chose "other" in the setup instead of Yahoo. I entered in my email address and password pressed next and the phone verified my account. I received the same error, No password provided, "Please go to Mail Account Settings and enter a password". I pressed the OK. This brought me to the IMAP tab in New Account. I then was able to scroll down and follow pholonitch's post but only changing the att.net to Yahoo.com. Also what needs to be done differently is to instead of using your actual account password, you need to use the ATT secure email key and enter the key code as your password and it worked. For those who do not know, this was a security update to fix data breaches in some third party email apps. This link is how to generate your key: Create a Secure Mail Key - Email Customer Support (att.com) If you already have a Secure Mail Key, use the one you have. If you generated a new one you will have to enter that as your password for any devices using the Secure Mail Key security.

Hope this helps

I figured it out finally but had to use the Yahoo on the drop down and my OS uses OAuth so I did not use a Secure Mail key.
