Trouble Signing into Your Free Email Account - Things to know from the AT&T Community

Learn why we cannot reset your email if you cannot remember your security questions.

If you are here, it is because you cannot sign in to your email. If you are an AT&T Internet Customer. Your email address is tied to your account. This means when you change your att.com password, it automatically changes your att.net email password.

How to change your email password IF you remember your security questions:

  1. Go to att.com/myatt.
  2. Select Forgot password?
  3. Fill out the password info.
  4. Choose security questions or a temporary password and follow the prompts. If you choose a temporary password, we’ll let you know where we sent it.
  5. Create your new password.

What if you do not have an AT&T Internet Account tied to your email?

The issue for some customers, if you cancel your service, your email is no longer tied to an account. When this happens, the normal steps to reset your email password are limited. More so, limited to what you set up. What does this mean?

If you set up security questions on your account or added a telephone number, they can be used to reset your email. If these were not set up by you when you canceled your account, AT&T is unable to reset your password. The reason, we cannot validate your identity

What happens if you forget your security questions or do not have a number tied to your account?

We will do our best to help! Visit AT&T Mail - How to recover your email account and fill out our web form. Understand, for security purposes, we may not be able to reset email passwords in some instances.

Something to think about. If someone, who was not you, contacted AT&T and said, “I cannot remember my security questions”, would you want AT&T to process a password reset?

AT&T needs a better way to provide support to customers who have AT&T email addresses but do not currently have any paid AT&T accounts.  I've used my AT&T email addresses for DECADES.  But, in recent years, I constantly have problems with you locking me out of one of my addresses when trying to login via your webmail interface (Currently).  Seems strange that I can access the email just fine via Gmail on my Android phone and via Thunderbird on my PC but not through Currently.

Getting someone on the phone to help requires way too much time.  There has to be an easy way to re-sync an account and to verify that account online without having to spend hours on the phone.  And there needs to be a way to verify an account with having to give you my cell phone number.  My mother doesn't have a cell phone.  How is she supposed to verify her account without one?

My AT&T email addresses are so old that AT&T just populated the zip code field with a non-valid zip code all on their own.  This was despite the fact that I was a paying customer of AT&T's Worldnet dial-up service at the time so they had my correct zip code.  And now they won't let me correct that zip code.  I have 3 AT&T email addresses and all have the wrong zip code assigned to the account.

I've deal with Care Code: 205.2 [LU003 last year and I'm now dealing with Care Code: 201 [LU100].  You can't continue to lock me out of my account when I provide the correct password!

Why do you continue to lock me out of my account access via Currently?  This last time, I simply entered my password wrong one time and have never been able to login again.  I shouldn't have to reset my password after one wrong login attempt.

What a shame that I'm going to have to cross AT&T off my list of companies to do any business with now or in the future.

Turns out I am no longer able to reset my password or have AT&T re-sync the account.  Somehow my last name is no longer associated with my email address (AT&T's fault, not mine) and because of that they are refusing to verify the account and let me have access.  They offered to link the email to one of my old AT&T accounts but I no longer have those account numbers and they couldn't find an old account without them.

I regret that I now have no choice but to abandon my AT&T email addresses and because of that will unlikely ever be a customer again.

Forgot to mention one crazy fact that astounds me about AT&T's incompetence.  I finally found my security questions and answers but guess what?  AT&T doesn't show any security questions and answers for the account that is locked.  How in the (Edited per community guidelines) was I ever supposed to get my account verified with that level of incompetence?

Shaking my head and glad I'm done with AT&T.

What does this mean? I've been unable to access my yahoo email, despite using a different browser, getting rid of my cookies and changing the password. What else should I do?

Very frustrating.
