My new home has ONT device but it's not available for AT&T fiber service

So I bought a new home and trying to setup the network service. I like at&t 1 Gig fiber but when I search the availability, it didn't give me that option, instead it only shows 50MB at&t all fi option. So I thought fiber is not available in my home initially.

But today when I walk through the house I find the previous owner is actually using AT&T ONT device which should prove that it does support fiber. I also searched my neighbor and it shows 1 gig service available. Is there any way I can get the fiber service to my home?

If the previous owner's residential service is still active, it shouldn't allow you to sign up for anything, fiber or DSL.  The previous owner may have gotten a dedicated business fiber line, which wouldn't show up as a residential offering because it's delivered differently, etc.  What model is the ONT

@JefferMC Thanks for your answer! It's this model from what I saw:

That sure looks like a residential 010 ONT.  I would think you should be able to get self-install for speeds up to 1 Gbps.

Glad to help with your Fiber request, songty11.

We see that the ONT is currently connected. Is this the same one that's in your home, or is this just an example of what it looks like? As JefferMC stated, if the last resident's account is still active, we won't be able to sign you up for service until it's canceled. If it is canceled, we can submit an address validation to determine if your home actually qualifies for Fiber.

Let us know, so we can determine how to proceed.

You should be able to tell if there's an active account.  I often use the availability tool at https://www.att.com/internet/availability/ and if there's service at that address it will tell me.

@ATTHelp This is an example picture, from what I saw the device has optimal cable in but doesn't connected to any modem/router so it should be canceled already. Can we submit an address validation to check? Thanks!

@songty11

Is it possible your previous owner is "moving" their service?

Since the ONT belongs to AT&T it is left behind which should allow you a simple self-install once your address is cleared.

From what has been posted so far it would appear that the previous owner was using an AT&T Reseller of Fiber service and that would show up as you being unable to qualify for service. The Reseller still holds the line of service.

Can you contact the previous seller for what specific Fiber service they have/had?

BY default even if they just cancelled the  line with the Reseller it can still take until the end of the billing cycle for the line release.

Also check the addresses on either side of your address to see if they qualify for AT&T fiber using the availability tool:

@dave006 The previous owner is using Xfinity though, they said at&t came and installed the ONT but they didn't chose to use it. While I check the address in https://www.att.com/availability it says the only option available is 50Mbps...

You could try ordering the 50 Mbps service, and when the installer shows up, show him the ONT and ask him why you can't use it.  If he cannot or will not install fiber, you can still cancel the install and walk away.
