WiFi usage/ blocking devices

I have a MAC address connected to my internet that doesn’t seem to be any of my devices. It doesn’t allow me to disconnect the device either. It reads “In order to provide uninterrupted service, this AT&T device cannot be paused, blocked, or added to a profile”. It is using close to half my internet. How do I control it?

Certain devices like iPhones have a privacy setting in WiFi that literally randomized MAC address.  This is not needed on a personally owned home network and I turn it off in this case.  Furthermore these mobile devices do a lot of background work in default mode, so that could be a source of data usage.  Just throwing it out there, but something I would investigate.

Hi @Hugof6, we are here to help you with an unexpected device connected to your AT&T network. Let’s tackle this step by step:

Identify the Device:

First, let’s find out which device is causing the issue. You can use AT&T’s Smart Home Manager to review connected devices. Here’s how:

  • Sign in to Smart Home Manager.
  • Choose Network, then Connected Devices.
  • Select the device you want to investigate. You can manage Wi-Fi devices with Smart Home Manager application.Block the Device:

Pause or Block the Device

Once you’ve identified the device, you can pause or block it:

  • Select the device from the list.
  • Choose the more option.
  • From there, you can pause the internet access for that device.

Let us know if this helps!

Can you give us any information you have in order to help us help you identify this device?  Do you have a name?  a MAC address?
