Fiber Optic Modem Keeps Disconnecting

On a daily basis, my modem will flash a red light showing it disconnected from the internet and will reconnect in 2-3 minutes. I have had this issue for the past year but it is becoming even more frequent lately, going off a dozen times within my workday. In the past, it will happen maybe 2-3x daily but as I just said, it has been repetitive in the last week. ATT has replaced this modem 3x already and the issue persist. They have done countless "updates" and have sent several techs to my home. The techs have been completely unhelpful since the signal shows no issues when it is on and they don't wait around until it goes off. I have tried unplugging it for a minute and plugging it back in, this does nothing for the issue. I have gone as far as change the outlet to ensure there isn't a power issue on that end as well.

This is not a WIFI issue, the entire modem disconnects. The modem is located in my office and I can see the flashing light every time it happens.

Hello @ _Khristopher

We hear you and understand the gravity of how inconvenient it can be when your modem keeps disconnecting. Let's work around this and make up for the invested time.

In order to fix AT&T fiber modem we recommend that you try the following steps:

  • Check the modem status icon on the task bar on your desktop.
  • Check all connections.
  • Make sure that the filters are installed on all telephone jacks with telephone devices.
  • Make sure that your DSL modem is not plugged into a surge protector.
  • Completely shut down your computer.
  • Remove the telephone line from modem.
  • Unplug your gateway for 15 seconds.
  • Remove and reinsert the battery, if you have an internal battery backup.
  • Plug the gateway back in and wait for the lights to stop flashing.
  • Check your connection to see if the problem is fixed.

Also, other reasons why AT&T internet keeps disconnecting

    Unstable network connection
    Busy network.

I have fiber optic, not DSL. All of these steps have been attempted and I did not see an improvement.

Is it a slow flashing red light or a fast flashing red light? Fast flashing light indicates a network issue beyond your address that AT&T will need to address without any changes to your Modem or inside connections.

Do you have aerial or underground AT&T provided service?

Is this still true? OP did yours ever get fixed? Mine has been doing the same but way more often.

solid white and fine…then all of a sudden blinking white…then slow blinking red for about a minute or so…blinking white fast then sold white. This cycle happens quite often. I’ve done my own troubleshooting but haven’t contacted att yet.
