assign static ip to printer

Hello. I have an Nokia BGW320-505 ATT gateway and an HP wifi printer. I understand printers need a static ip address otherwise in order to be able to print using wifi otherwise they get assigned a new ip and cannot be found again by phones, laptops etc. My understanding is the printer should be assigned and address outside the dhcp pool. I can assign the printer an address outside the dhcp pool and it shows up as connected on the gateway but does not show up under the Home Network IP allocation list so I cannot allocate it to that ip manually. Is there a way to do assign a a private ip outside the pool on the gateway?

You're trying to use two different mechanisms to do the same thing.  You can either use static assignment outside of the pool, or you can use dynamic assignment and reserve the IP for it so that dynamic assignment always gives the same IP.

Thank for your reponse. I assigned an ip outside of the pool on the printer itself and that is working so far.
