sbcglobal.net email access via Outlook
Main problem: I cannot access my sbcglobal.net email address via Outlook. It worked just fine until May 9th, 2020. But stopped completely starting May 10th, 2020. Things I did / verify:
1. Access the address via web - Works fine (that means user + password are correct)
2. Verified the POP3 + SMTP + ports as per https://sbcglobalpasswordesupport.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/42000027682-sbcglobal-email-settings-att-sbcglobal-net-pop3-imap-smtp-settings-2018 - Everything correct. (checked other links, same info)
3. Hit "Test Account Settings" in Outlook: Most of the time I get a "Server Interrupted ..." message; sometime "connected to server but server did not respond"
Note: Every time I hit "Test account Settings" an email comes into my Inbox (checked via web) from "Microsoft Office Outlook Test Message" for "... testing the settings for your POP3 account."
4. I did check above items using two different wireless IPs and one Hotspot (to change the provider) - NO difference.
Can anyone tell me what is the problem? Maybe a tricky setting I am not aware? Does anything changed on the ATT / Yahoo servers recently?
(Clearly is not the internet provider. And clearly not the settings.)
NOTE: While the link above has very good information (content & presentation), it is a SCAMMERS WEBSITE. And so is the phone number they list **********) DO NOT CALL!
Thank you!

I just had the same problem. Had to update sbcglobal.net password via yahoo mail but then lost outlook connectivity. Here is the solution
Go to att.com/olam
Sign-in -in using current user & password
Go to Profile
Go to Sign-in Info
Go to Secure mail key
Setup new secure mail key which
will give you a long password
Use it as your outlook password
Set outlook for POP3
inbound.att.net with 995 SSL
outbound.att.net with 465 SSL.
Then use your user ID with the secure
key as the password

Val,
Very thorough approach you had written out. Is it working now? What was the final solution? I have two separate PCs with this problem at the moment.

I am still struggling...
After my old XP didn't want to connect to ATT server I started to check my emails online. But I didn't and still don't like it. So, at one point (before timbrundle16 added his solution), I did set up my work laptop to connect to ATT (new Outlook account, in addition to my work email). Everything worked great!
Later on I got the message from timbrundle16, tried it (about one month later) and it did NOT work for me. Since I never have enough time, I decided to re-check it later.
At one point, my work laptop (Windows 10, Office 2016) started to behave exactly the same like my old XP! Connection error, etc.
I'll try again your procedure.
(I am a little bit confused: I don't work in IT but I am really good with computers. What did I do wrong?)

Update:
I just used above procedure on my work laptop and IT WORKED! (as I mentioned, W10, Office 2016) So, YES, the solution was to use a secure key.
Important: Now, I can use Outlook with the secure key (as a password). It does NOT work with my normal password (that I use online).
Notes:
I used above procedure for the secure key but I didn't use the server settings as indicated (POP3 ...). Instead I kept the settings that I had originally (not sure who / why / how they were this way). Below, you have the settings I had and worked for me:
Incoming mail:
Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com; Port - 993; Encryption SSL/TLS; SPA - NOT checked!
Outgoing mail:
Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com; Port - 465; Encryption SSL/TLS; SPA - NOT checked! SMTP server requires authentication - CHECKED!
I will try the solution (again) on my XP computer and post the result.
Thank you for help!

Yes. I needed the secure key solution with a laptop and also with a desktop. Both had outlook 2010 and windows 10. For my cellphone and tablet on android, neither required a change in password for email. ONLY required for outlook.

Val,
I’m glad it helped. Some accounts work better using IMAP while older accounts like mine are better using POP3. Same goes for the computer itself. Either POP3 or IMAP using the secure key should work. Not had any issues with mine since making the changes
