Short code 6-digit SMS text suddenly stopped arriving on iphone XR

About 3 months ago, I suddenly stopped receiving those SMS short code texts that I get from my bank, credit cards, restaurants, two-factor verifications, etc.  I get them if a 10-digit number or some 5-digit code is sending the texts, but not the others.  This is causing lots of issues for me.  About 6 weeks ago I spent a couple of hours on the phone with ATT and gave up.  I reset my phone, but it was sill a problem.  I have read that others have a similar problem, and I try their suggestions, but nothing seems to work.  I am trying one last time before I change my carrier.

Hey there @mcclellanfamily, we understand the importance of receiving short code messages, and want to help you get them again.

Let's start by troubleshooting your device's ability to receive these SMS messages, as there are a few reasons why you wouldn't get a text. Here are some of the potential reasons, along with how to troubleshoot them:

  • The number sending these messages is blocked. Make sure the number sending these verification codes isn't blocked by going into your Settings > Messages > Blocked Contacts. You'll be able to unblock the number from there.
  • The device needs a software update. Check and see if your phone has the latest software update, and if not, follow the steps underneath Update & verify software to update it. A patch may be required for you to recieve these texts again.
  • There's a poor connection. We understand you've reset your phone before, however resetting your network settings specifically will refresh & improve your device's connection to our network.
    • Keep in mind, resetting your network settings will permantly erase all saved Wi-Fi settings, Bluetooth settings and network settings.

You can also check out more reasons for why this might happen, along with the appropiate troubleshooting steps, on this forums page regarding short code texts in the Accepted & Official solution section. We also have even more troubleshooting options for your device and wireless service that we recommend you try, in addition to the above options.

Let us know the results of your troubleshooting, so we can look into this further if needed.
