My iPhone will not send photos and sometimes texts to non iPhones

I Have an iPhone, and I can’t  send photos and sometimes texts to non iPhone users. I have been trying for the last couple days to send two pictures to some of my friends. My friends with iPhones have no trouble receiving the pictures. But when I send it to a friend that does not have an iPhone it won’t send the message or the pictures. I just get that little circle with the! In it says was not sent. I just got my new phone last week, it’s an iPhone XS. And this is the first time this has happened. I had no trouble before. What can I do?

Do you have your imessages set for send as SMS when imessage is unavailable in the settings? That could be the reason for non-iphones to not get your messages.

I do have that option on. Should I turn it off?

Since IOS 11 photos are being saved in a different format (HEIC). You need to convert the photos to JPEG format. You can set the default format to JPEG. Links below has more info
