International Data Plans

I am going to be traveling abroad to multiple countries across multiple continents for over four months. I am looking for the best solution to maintaining my unlimited data plan as well as talk and text.

Hi @RachelElizabeth,

AT&T service is meant to be primarily domestic. While international roaming is supported, it's not supported for extended periods of time, such as the four month trip you have planned.

For example, the International Day Pass (which would allow you to access your unlimited data, talk and text) has the possibility of being removed if over 50% of your usage occurs outside the US for 2 consecutive months. Info about that here: https://www.att.com/offers/international-plans/day-pass.html

Plus it's $10/day.

Passport doesn't appear to have that limitation that I can find, but it's expensive and limits the amount of data you have available and doesn't allow for unlimited talk for free, but at a per minute rate. Info about that here: https://www.att.com/offers/international-plans/passport.html

Even if you had a carrier like T-Mobile that allows for free international roaming in a lot of places, the general rule still is that the majority of your usage for multiple consecutive billing periods needs to occur in the US or risk losing roaming abilities or even service completely.

Your best bet is to get your phone unlocked if it's not already and get local SIM cards in each country/area you're visiting.
