Not receiving SMS messages from overseas

I am planning a trip to Finland this summer. Several services have tried to send me sms messages. I have not received a single message from any of them.

I doubt it matters, but I have a moto g stylus 5g (20222).

@dayooper Are you postpaid or prepaid. Prepaid does not roam in Finland. If you have WiFi calling setup prior to departing the US you could send/receive texts and make calls while on WiFi.

I am on a prepaid plan. I have not yet been able to set this phone to wifi calling yet as the menu is not in the "normal" location. I will look into that later today.

@dayooper If you did not have WiFi calling setup prior to departing the US you can not set it up overseas. Again prepaid roaming is not available in Finland as indicated in the link provided in my first reply.

Hello @dayooper, we hope everything is going well with you!

Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern, we are here to help you.

Have you also checked your settings to ensure you're connecting to the right network?

This can be done by going to Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Cellular networks. Once there, please choose a different carrier than the one selected, turn the phone off for about 15 – 20 seconds, and then turn it back on. Once back on, please attempt to try to send a message.

Learn how to use AT&T Prepaid outside the U.S. by visiting the below link.

Hello @Accenco,

Thanks for reaching out to us, we're right here to get the right information.

You need a postpaid plan and international roaming enabled on your line. Received texts are free, so you won’t get any roaming charges unless you send a text, make any calls or use data, so make sure you turn data roaming off to prevent accidental usage of data.

Unfortunately, PREPAID will not support roaming in Finland. However, as the ACE mentioned if you don't have the WiFi calling setup prior departing US you will not send/receive texts and make calls while on WiFi.

Also, you can check the coverage using this link https://www.att.com/maps/wireless-coverage.html.

Hope this helps! Please do let us know if you have any further questions.

Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.
