I was gifted with at&t LG g3 by my friend and have been using it outside US for sometime now. But I Ann unable to get lollipop update. Can you guys tell me how to update my phone.

If you want the OTA (over the air) update then you need to have an AT&T sim card in the device on the AT&T network. Then go to settings, about phone, software upgrade while connected to wifi.

if the phone has not been updated then yes you have options to flash a non ATT image to the phone. But you have to be confortable with moding the phone software.
