Android messages is not working when I try to text over Wi-Fi
When I try to text my friends over the school Wi-Fi using Google's Android messages, the texts don't send. I use a vpn and I can use other Wi-Fi apps like snapchat fine. When I am outside, i can send messages using a cellular connection. What is wrong?

More information: my phone is Wi-Fi calling capable. It's a Samsung galaxy s8. Also the school blocks certain Wi-Fi usage, bit since I'm using a vpn it should be fine
