Concerned about being compromised or hacked

I might just be thinking crazy but I'm concerned that my ex has hacked my phone. He makes comments about things that he wouldn't know. Things that have been privately communicated by texts and social media messages and also locations I've been that he otherwise wouldn't have known. I've never used or owned an iPhone and sometimes it seems that my Samsung is recognizing itself as an iPhone. He has an iPhone. Has never been linked to any of my accounts. He has connected to my home internet, which I also connect with, which is another carrier (Verizon). I know this sounds crazy and like I am paranoid but hopefully I can get someone here to confirm that I am perhaps correct that he has access to my emails, texts, accounts and is potentially "in my phone" or ease my mind and tell me to not to be so crazy! I appreciate any and all advice. Not sensitive to criticism either. Thanks in advance!

No one here  has any idea.  Almost all of these situations happen because the other person has shared account credentials.  If someone has an iPhone, it’s usually shared iCloud or iMessage credentials.  Is it possible that he put some spying software on your phone?  Yes it’s possible if there was physical access to the phone, but unless you take the phone to a forensic place, you probably won’t know.  Want to be rid of him?  Don’t share anything with him.  Get you own accounts,IDs, passwords, etc.  so you don’t share anything with him.

Thank you. I DO have all my own accounts and never shared passwords or anything. I've only allowed him on my home wifi.  I appreciate your response.

We'll be happy to assist you with your device, @Chitchat.

There are a few things you need to do if you feel that your phone has been hacked.

  • You'll need to do a factory reset like mentioned here: https://support.google.com/android/answer/6088915. Back up any pictures or other files you want to keep. Then go to Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset > Reset device > Delete all (this may vary based on which specific Android device you have; if this doesn't guide you to your device's factory reset screen, let us know what phone you have and we can offer specialized guidance).
  • Change all of your passwords, particularly for sensitive accounts such as your email and any financial accounts.
  • Set up two-factor authentication on your Google Account like mentioned here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185839?hl=en

After you've reset your device and set up new passwords, download the AT&T Mobile Security app here: https://www.att.com/security/security-apps/. The Basic Security app is included with every plan and includes device security and breach reports. The Advanced version ($3,99/month) includes that plus identity monitoring services, public Wi-Fi protection, and theft alerts.

Please let us know if this helps you resolve the matter. Thank you for reaching out to our AT&T Community.

Change all your passwords to EVERYTHING...email, banking cell account and add 2 factor authentication for it all.  You have an iPhone?  Change iCloud email and password and 2 factor that too.

Android?  Samsung?  Same as iCloud
