Problem receiving email

Starting yesterday afternoon, addresses that had successfully sent me emails to my sbcglobal account got a bounce back. I tried to send myself a message from my gmail account and got this. Apparently, spam is getting through.

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<[email scrubbed]>
(reason: 550 5.7.9 This mail has been blocked because the sender is unauthenticated. Yahoo requires all senders to authenticate with either SPF or DKIM. )

It's nothing you did, or can do, on your end. Yahoo has been incrementally enforcing DKIM/SPF rules for the past couple of months in order to increase security and to reduce spam. Organizations, web sites, etc that send newsletters have been scrambling to get their mail servers configured correctly.

The individuals who are having problems need to contact their mail providers and tell them to put the required entries into their DNS records. This also makes it harder for bad actors to spoof email addresses - sort of like an electronic signature.

Hi @jaydshulman! We understand your concern regarding receiving emails. We hear you, and happy to assist you.

There are several reasons on why you might not be receiving email from a specific user. Please check on the below steps:

You may have blocked either their email address or domain extensions (for example, com, org, net). Check if you have the Blocked Addresses feature enabled:

  1. In the upper right-hand corner, select the Gear, and choose More Settings to access Settings.
  2. On the Settings menu, in the left-hand column, select Security and Privacy
  3. Under Blocked Addresses in the right-hand window, you can check for any email addresses being blocked.
  4. Scan the list of blocked addresses for the ID of the account being investigated.
Heads up: You could've block a whole domain if you do not enter a valid email address. Check all blocked addresses listed.
  5. To remove a blocked address, highlight it and click the trash can icon.

If no erroneous blocks were found, or no blocked addresses exist, check the filters. You may have created email filters.

  1. In the upper-right corner, select the Gear, and choose More Settings to access Settings.
  2. On the Settings menu, from the left-hand column, select Filters
  3. Check for any existing filters that may have triggered, causing messages to route to a specified folder. Highlight the filter name to view what the filter is directing the mail to do. You can edit the filter from here.
    • Example 1: You created a filter to route messages with pizzahut.com in the From field to the folder named Trash.
      • If this is an email you assume is missing, please check the folder for the message(s) in question.
      • If the messages are found, please check filters/folders. You can leave the filters as is, edit, or delete as they see fit.

Also, please try resetting your password as this could help resolving the issue.

Let us know if this helps.

It’s horrible.  I’ve had Gmail people email my sbcglobal.net account and get rejected.

Att/Yahoo need to lighten up everything. I’d rather get 200 spam than miss an important email from a customer.

I feel your pain. Gmail accounts should not have an issue and yeah spam is still getting through.

I just checked some of my recent emails (federal govt, Newegg) and can see from the message headers that Yahoo has made  some changes since the last time I checked (about 2-3 weeks ago). The chain of custody is much shorter than it was previously meaning that there's less hand-offs between servers. It looks like all the separate server groups are being consolidated(absorbed?) into the Yahoo group. If so, sbcglobal.net, att.net, and so on are not separate endpoints.

I wonder what's going on behind the scenes that's not being disclosed at this time. Did Yahoo buy our accounts? Will we be forced to use Yahoo logins? (I always wear a tin hat). It is likely that the consolidation and configuration changes aren't going as well as Yahoo planned.  A couple of weeks ago, email from gmail users was taking up to 3 days to arrive in my mail box. A few times I had to tell people to use my alternate email address (different provider).

Yahoo recently took over email for Cox Communications and there's some problems there also. Many people I know are not too happy about the delivery problems. From a public relations perspective, Yahoo could definitely do better by communicating with users.

Now lucky me not only is ATT/Yahoo rejecting emails and Spam they are delaying messages and my customers are getting error messages.  This is what they get.  They are a Gmail customer.  Anyone else having these issues now?

Hi -- I am also not receiving important messages -- spam is coming through!

Here is the error message i was forwarded:

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

Your message wasn't delivered. Despite repeated attempts to deliver your message, the recipient's email system refused to accept a connection from your email system.

Contact the recipient by some other means (by phone, for example) and ask them to tell their email admin that it appears that their email system is refusing connections from your email server. Give them the error details shown below. It's likely that the recipient's email admin is the only one who can fix this problem.

For Email Admins
No connection could be made because the target computer actively refused it. This usually results from trying to connect to a service that is inactive on the remote host - that is, one with no server application running. Someone just texted me what they get back.

The response was:

A user on a separate forum inquiry about this same issue posted this -- includes an outage ticket number at AT&T (‎Not receiving all incoming messages | Page 3 | AT&T Community Forums (att.com)):

"From AT&T Technical Support via chat:

"As I checked from my end with the network team there was an ongoing outage issue email server outage that is the reason you are facing this issue and many of the user has been facing this issue and in this case i have raised the complaint to the network team to fix the issue at the earliest and and once the email server outage is fixed you will able to access your email without any issue and you can raise the ticket about that att.com/myemailinfo.  during this server outage you will not receive any email and after the server email outage issue fixed you will able to receive all emails from your end and you can send your email without any issues.  our network server team is already working on that and this is the outage ticket number 1605187 and in this case we don't want to give the fake information about the issue and as per latest report this is the testing and updating outage only and it will be fixed very soon."

But all missed emails are lost.  Senders are beginning to get undeliverable messages."

I am having the same issues. I checked my filter and blocked email address and still nothing.

What else can I do?
