Weatherboots at LNB connector

Is it necessary for LNB to have weatherproof boot when the LNB and connector is inside the arm? If it is required is there a link that states it? Having a discussion with fellow techs about it.

Hello @Installman,

Thanks for bringing this discussion to the forums, we can provide some insight as to why it's necessary for the satellite dish components to be weatherproof.

Although the LNB and connector are inside the arm, weather-proofing these components is necessary to prevent any moisture or humidity from going into the cable. Additionally, all coaxial cable connections and entry points must be properly sealed and use the DIRECTV-approved fitting, and all
external connections and cable entry points must be properly weather-proofed and all connections must use the
DIRECTV-approved weather boot.

Since the dish is exposed to different elements, weather-proofing these components allow for them to withstand the test of time.

We hope this information helps in your discussion with your fellow techs. Let us know if you have any further questions!
