Update the Directv App

When trying to watch the app on my iPad mini it says that I need to update in the App Store but when I get to t he store and click on open it takes me back to the Directv app with same message of to update it. I've deleted the app and reloaded it and turn off my ipad for an hour only to still have the same error message. My software is up to date IOS 9.35, can you please advise as to what else I will need to do. Thank you

The directv app will no longer work with iOS versions below iOS10. Devices that cannot upgrade to iOS10 or later are no longer compatible with the app.

I am having same problem and I get the upgrade but IT IS NOT FAIR BECAUSE,  I AM LIVID!!! I USE MINE EVERYDAY AND MY SOFTWEAR IS IOS 9.3 or 9.5 REALLLY!!!!! AND NOW I CAN NOT USE IT ALL BECAUSE YOU NEED 10.0. AND TO TOP IT OFF I PAY AROUND $200 EVERY MONTH AND NOW I LOSE A HUGE ADVANTAGE THAT I USED AGAIN EVERYDAY!!!! THEY GOING TO LOWER MY BILL BECAUSE OF CHANGE!?!?!? MOST LIKELY NO.. BUT WE WILL BE PAYING THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE FOR LESS SERVICES IT IS RIDICULOUS AND LIKE YOU SAID ALL BECAUSE  OF A UPGRADE THAT COULD HAVE TOOK ACCOUNT FOR THE FACT SOME OF YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT DO TAKE CARE OF OUR DEVICES AND DO NOT NEED TO BUY NEW ONES AND AS IN MY CASE I CAN NOT AFFORD IT... AND MAYBE THE CUSTOMERS THAT HAD AT LEAST ABOVE IOS 8.0 WOULD NOT BE AFFECTED SINCE MAJORITY IS 9. AND ABOVE THIS SHOULD BE AN EASY FIX. TO PLEASE YOUR LONG TIME PAYING CUSTOMERS. OR SIMPLY WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY AS MUCH AS OTHERS THAT STILL HAVE THIS ADVANTAGE....OR HEY MAYBE EVEN KEEP THE OLD VERSION THAT WORKED FOR LOWER IOS SO THE ONES THAT HAVE TO STILL HAS IT, OR IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO UPGRADE TO NEWER VERSION CAN.. FORCING CUSTOMERS TO UPGRADE TO SOMETHING THEY CAN NOT AS EVERY OTHER CUSTOMERS WHILE THEY ALSO ARE CHARGED SAME FEES FOR OTHER SERVICES TO HAVE THIS ADVANTAGE  IS NOT FAIR IN ANYWAY AND IN MY OPINION IS HORRIBLE BUISSINESS ETIQUETTE!!!!!!!!!!!!

@WendyBly , this situation is hardly unique to the DirecTV App.  It's all-too-common that vendors drop support for older iOS versions as the operating evolves and their apps take advantage of new features.  Sad situation, but that's the reality.

I can concurr as another voice in the wilderness that Direct TV does not care about...  They were still telling me up to 2 days ago that I'd be contacted about a remedy for this. I asked point blank to 2 reps, ... Is the prior version no longer supported. You would think that at least they should know about this issue instead of wasting a whole bunch of time in me deleting reinstalling, rebooting and all the mess, with them thinking a had a log on issue. They seem to be clueless. They don't seem to even update there own Direct TV specialists that the legacy app will no longer work. Just yet another reason to leave Direct TV. Their regular in line streaming on Mac and PC is also plagued with issues. The iPad app was the only somewhat reliable way that I had to watch Direct TV online. Now I've got nothing good going on with them...

Lame excuse. Most apps have older versions active when they are not compatible with the new IOS. They stop the update requests and leave the last version that worked on the device in operational state.

ATT has no concept of customer loyalty and fulfilling its commitments. On top of it, they deceive and expect you to stay with them. Case in point, they still advertise BEIN sports as offering even though they took it out of their lineup 8 month ago. That was one reason I moved to Directv. I should have the freedom to cancel my agreement based on that but they won't allow it. Once my contract is up, I am moving all of my ATT services to other vendors (+$400/month). I already asked my work to move my work cell to Verizon.

BeIn removed their feed not DTV.

I am having the same problem but my iPad has version 10.3.3. I too have deleted the Directv app, turned off the iPad, turned back on and re-downloaded the app, but it still will not update. Does it now require a higher OS than 10?

Also devices that have 32 bit processor architecture will not work anymore.  Gen 5 has 64 bit processor.

Thank you. How do I find the size of the processor?

On your iPad go to: Settings/General/About - what’s the model number?

Also on the outside back at the bottom is a number that should start with A. You may need a magnifying glass to read!  The number in the settings will be different. They are linked.  Google the number in settings with the number on the back and search for processor.  As an example if the number in settings has something like md511LL/A being 32 bit or md512LL/A being 64 bit.

Tapping the number in settings will toggle between the “M” number and the “A” number, easier than using a magnifying glass 🙂

It’s MD512LL/A, which is 4th generation. I think I’m screwed.

I wouldn't be to quick to say that.  I think you have one that is a 64 bit processor. If so you will be able to also upgrade the OS.  keep researching. Check settings/general for software update.

I am running into the same problem of endless loop to download an update. I have a 4th generation iPad and it works great! Not going to spend hundreds on another one when I already spend hundreds for DIRECTV  service that's obviously doesn't value its customers. I should always have access  to my own account on any device. I am livid  with  DIRECTV about this!
