HBO Max account suddenly maps to the same account as another user on plan

So I’ve had the ultimate plan for about a year. Had no issues logging into HBO Max originally. Have had it in all my devices like phone, tv, iPad, etc.

Yesterday the app in all my devices suddenly started showing the “Don’t miss out!” With the “restore subscription, Choose plan, etc” screen. My account em was still signed in, but apparently not subscribed.

Trying to login by choosing the “Already subscribed” link on that screen in HBO Max with my att account resulted in “The subscription we found is linked to a different account. To start watching sign into this account”

Okay…. So I sign out of the HBO app and sign in. It works however, it is not my previous account and the profile name listed is that of another person on the same family plan (with their own Ultimate plan and att login).
Furthermore, we find that the other account owner sees this same account on their devices, even though they are logging in with their own separate att account login.
So what seems to have happened is whatever mapping occurs between att login and HBO max is messed up and now our two att login  accounts are mapped to the same HBO Max account.
Please help me to restore the mapping to a separate account?

Hello @,

Thanks for reaching back out to us.

That's correct. You will need to set up profiles for each individual user.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hey there @Bnch37, thanks for reaching out and providing all the necessary details regarding your HBO Max concerns.

First, please be advised that there's only one login for accounts with up to 5 subscribers. If the main user hasn't set up the profiles for each individual, then they'll need to do so directly through HBO Max.

When you sign in to HBO Max, you'll see the Who Is Watching? screen. This is where you can choose who's watching and manage profiles for people in your household.

Profiles help you keep track of what you've watched (so you can continue watching where you left off) and what you'd like to watch (My List).

We hope this information helps and thanks for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums Team!

So you are saying that the link between ATT and HBO Max accounts has changed and now instead of each subscriber having their own HBO Max account attached to their ATT login, each ATT login maps to one HBO Max account (with the intention being to use profiles to segment the accounts?)

I gotta say that I don't appreciate this being the "official solution" to this problem, because it doesn't solve the problem.  The problem is that each individual user ID with an Unlimited Elite plan on an AT&T account no longer has access to their own HBO Max subscription.  This is not how this benefit had operated a month ago.  I had my own HBO Max account.  My parents each had their own HBO Max account.  My brothers each had their own HBO Max accounts.  Now every single one of those accounts except for my dad's no longer is linked to the Unlimited Elite plan each of us pays for individually.  We now all need to share the same HBO Max subscription, lose all of our watch history and profile information, and can no longer manage our own Max accounts.  Worse, there is a limited number of screens and devices that can be using one single Max account at a time, so to share one single account is asinine.  This IS a change from what was previously in place with our Elite plan, so this doesn't solve the issue in any way.  If this was a planned and permanent change to how each of our Elite plans operate, we needed to be informed of such a massive change prior to its implementation.

I agree. They've removed all incentive for me to keep paying for multiple unlimited elite accounts. As it stands now, I can downgrade all accounts except one and keep the same features.

Yes, 1 hbo max account per 1 att account (despite the number of lines) on a plan is not how it use to work, and not how it's being advertised.
