Max Activation
Well discussed, but with many conflicting answers. My wireless plan show Max included as of this date is 2024. I can’t remember ever activating. I’m getting a message of “can’t verify subscription,” when I try to sign in choosing AT&T as my provider.
is it too late to be able to activate and view Max? Sorry for a duplicated question.

If you didn't activate it when you signed up for your plan then it probably is too late to activate it now. Around Dec. 5th the migration of current HBO Max subscribers to Max was started but it didn't and has not gone well. Below is my post from around that time.
AT&T spun off HBO Max (now called Max) over a year ago. It is now owned by WBD (Warner Brothers/Discovery) making its own decisions as to who has access or not. The migration of legacy AT&T accounts to Max did not go well and has been fraught with many problems. Some customers were able to get their AT&T logins merged to Max but their service was downgraded to Ad-free, two concurrent devices, full HD only. If you want 4k HDR/Atmos (Ultimate Tier) you need to subscribe directly to Max and pay for it. Your original TOS stated that "terms were subject to change", and being as AT&T no longer controls Max, that certainly qualifies as a change. Also, any changes you made to your plan after activating your "HBO Max for Life" promo also affected that promo. Max (WBD) is in control now so it's up to them as to who gets free access to their full HD tier or not. You can try to contact AT&T Support and see if they can sync your account info to Max but it's hit and miss.

Hi @DWade, we understand that you are unable to sign in to your Max account. We wish to get this fixed. Please try these below fix to get it working:
If you’re signing in for the first time, select Connect to Provider and choose AT&T. Then, sign in with the AT&T user ID and password for the AT&T service that gives you access to Max. Don’t worry, if you enter the ID for the wrong service, we’ll email you a hint.
Helpful tips:
1. Have an Apple® device with Apple single sign-on (SSO)? If so and you see:
2. Can’t Verify Your Subscription, you may have to disableApple single sign on (SSO) and then open the HBO Max app. Be sure to scroll down for steps on how to deactivate SSO.
3 Unhandled Exception, select Cancel and try again.
Feel free to reach us out for any further assistance.

Thank you everyone for the comments. OttoP had an excellent detailed discussion on the issue. The posts from the AT&T Community Specialists confirmed this, although it was somewhat hidden in an asterisk note: “Wireless/Internet customers must have registered to use Max to continue receiving access.”
