Enabling wifi calling on OnePlus 12

I've spoke with att customer service twice about enabling wifi calling on my unlocked OnePlus 12 the first time they said I needed a software update that they'd send to me and never got. Next time they tried a few things and then created a support ticket. I still don't have wifi calling or video calling, never got the software update they said they'd send me. So hopefully this will help me and others who are using a OnePlus to be able to have wifi calling and video. Has anyone had this issue fixed and if so how'd they fix it. Any info would help.

AT&t's approved list only means that talk text and data will work on their network. OnePlus devices have never worked with Wi-Fi calling on AT&T or Verizon except for the few devices that Verizon sold themselves.

Whether it makes sense to you or not, AT&T does have a PDF which lists the "service capabilities of unlocked devices" They have not updated the PDF in quite some time.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/pdf/Service-Capabilities-Unlocked-Devices-ATT-Network.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjetLGqmYWFAxWmjIkEHZV3CSgQFnoECCQQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1_HTZZPK5A-dQ7YSumFFUc

You'll notice the model numbers in the left, and on the right hand side it will show you the service capabilities which may say HD voice, HD voice and 5g, or it may include the full list of services including HD voice, 5G, Wi-Fi calling etc

Well it was nice of support to have you spinning your wheels for no reason.

You will get HD voice, you'll be able to use your hotspot, and you should be able to use 5G. But AT&T has stubbornly refused to allow Wi-Fi calling on most non AT&T brand phones.  Unfortunately phones like OnePlus, Sony etc are allowed on the network, but are not allowed Wi-Fi calling.

Video calling also does not work on a non-branded device.

Sorry I know that's not the answer you want

We understand that you’re experiencing issues with enabling Wi-Fi calling on your unlocked OnePlus 12. We're here to help you @Joeev.

AT&T and Wi-Fi Calling: AT&T does not officially support Wi-Fi calling on most unlocked, non-AT&T branded phones, including the OnePlus 12.

However, you can try below steps.

Manual Activation: To enable Wi-Fi calling on your OnePlus 12, follow these steps:
Open the Settings app.
Navigate to Wi-Fi & Network > SIM & Network.
Select your SIM card and toggle on Wi-Fi Calling.
Reboot your device.

If issue still persists, please reach out to OnePlus support additional guidance.

Hope this information helps!

OnePlus 12 is on at&t list of approved unlocked phones for their byod so it doesn't make sense not to enable wifi calling. I have an unlocked Samsung flip 5 that's Verizon branded so it's a non att phone and the wifi calling works on it. As you can see in this network settings menu wifi calling is there all att needs to do is enable it. It also says on att byod site that there is in fact a software update att can give you to enable wifi calling/video calling. Our cellphone bill it about 350 bucks a month and for that price I think att can enable wifi calling because where I live the signal is weak at my house so wifi calling is pretty important. To be completely honest if this is something they refuse to enable I will cancel my 350+ a month plan and go to a provider who is willing to let me use the most basic of cellphone features. Also why isn't att selling OnePlus phones anyways? So I suggest someone from att get on the ball and get this fixed! I'm sure theres plenty of people who are having the same issue and if you're going to have a bring your own device program then whatever device you bring to att should be able to use all the features or do away with it altogether!! It's 2024 you're telling me att is being so petty that if you don't spend 1000+ on one of the phones they are selling you can't use wifi calling?!?! That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Come on att, be better humans!

@ATTHelp  Susan, you know very well not all unlocked phones are Wi-Fi calling capable.  So why?  Just why? 🤦🏼‍♀️

The point I'm trying to make is that att could definitely enable wifi calling on unlocked phones. Every phone I've had for the last few years has had wifi calling. There's no reason for them not too.

So here's another chat with att I had yesterday where I ask about an update to enable wifi calling and the att rep basically says yes we will send you a provisioning update to get wifi calling to work but as of today I've received no update. That just proves to me that they definitely can get it working now if they actually do is another matter. Guess we will see!

AT&T does not have authority to update a device that they do not sell, that does not contain AT&T software. And is entirely the intellectual property of OnePlus.

You are spitting into the wind,

If you really need Wi-Fi calling, switch to T-Mobile
