Multiple Issues on iPhone & iPad After Changing AT&T Password

@ATTHelp

I find myself here again, 2 years after posting about the same issue.  I updated my AT&T password, then my email stopped working on my iPhone and iPad.

Clicking the Re-Enter password link brought up the Yahoo screen within the IOS settings and it showed my AT&T email by default, but it would not go past that screen when clicking Next.  This happened on both my iPhone and iPad.

I tried restarting, but that didn't work.

A day later, I finally gave up and deleted the account again.

When trying to recreate the account using the default Yahoo selection, it gave the same error that I posted about 2 years ago, after I entered the new password I got "No password provided" .

When trying to recreate the account using the "Other" option, the IMAP server settings were entered automatically, but I kept getting "Cannot Connect Using SSL" and it asked if I wanted to continue the setup without SSL.  I clicked on No.

I searched online for current AT&T IMAP settings and found instructions on your site, but the screen captures in the setup instruction show a gmail account and it didn't show IMAP settings, it only said to enter the "desired" settings.  I don't understand why they would not show an AT&T account with all required server settings in your own instructions but that's another issue.  I finally found the IMAP settings on another AT&T page under DSL Support.  The IMAP server settings that were automatically entered in IOS were correct, but it still didn't work.

Finally, after struggling with this for hours, the setup process started working again and I was able to recreate the account.  At this point I don't even remember if I chose the default Yahoo option or "Other," but in either case, I didn't change anything that I previously tried.  It just started working by using the same steps, which to me seems like the problem is on the back end.

I just wanted to say that it shouldn't be this hard.  We should be able to change our password without having to pay for it with hours of frustration.  Apple/IOS Mail has been around long enough that this should not be an issue.

Also, I use the Yahoo/AT&T Currently webmail system daily with my email also downloading to IOS Mail. I changed my password to be cautious due to an extortion spam email that I received. The Yahoo/AT&T spam filtering seems useless.  On a daily basis I need to manually flag way too many obvious spam emails, but they keep coming.  It seems like the system is not "learning" the characteristics of spam emails (lots of special characters in the subject, international domains, incorrect spelling, etc).  Instead, it flags emails from people that I previously emailed.  I recently found important reply emails that I was waiting for in my spam/junk folder.

Again, it shouldn't be this hard!  If you read this far, thank you.

Hi there @NotARobot,

We appreciate the effort you've put in and we've read through your whole post. To probably prevent this from happening again:

Here are the steps if you face any issues further-

If your email address is linked to your AT&T Access ID, changing your AT&T Access ID password will automatically change your email password and vice versa.

For additional help on changing you AT&T Access ID, please refer to How to Reset your Email Password using myAT&T for a step-by-step walkthrough of the process.

If it's just a Yahoo account not linked to ATT in any way, you can change the password on your Yahoo! account by using Yahoo!’s Password Helper wizard or by following these steps:

  1. Go to your Yahoo! Account Security Info, where you can change your password or remove your security questions.
  2. Click Account Security.
  3. Click Change password.

Enter and confirm your new password and click Continue. You will receive a confirmation appears.

  1. Click Continue to finish.

Note: You may experience fewer account security issues if you choose a strong password. See these tips for creating strong passwords.

Finally, if you encounter any issues with your service or equipment, I recommend checking out our Troubleshoot & Resolve solutions to help diagnose the issue.

Set up Windows Mail for AT&T email

Use these steps to set up your email for the first time or on a new computer.

  1. In Windows Mail, press Windows key + C to access Charms Menu.
  2. Select Settings > Accounts.
  3. Choose Add an account.
  4. Select Yahoo!
  5. Complete Account Info:
    • AT&T email address (YourName@att.net)
    • Password – enter your password
  6. Select Connect. If you provided the sign in info, your AT&T email will sync with Windows Mail.

Verify or update email settings

Windows Mail doesn’t support POP3 settings. Use these steps to verify or update your IMAP settings:

  1. In Windows Mail, select your AT&T email Account.
  2. Confirm Account name and download info.
  3. Confirm or update your incoming email server info:
    • Incoming email server - http://sm.att.com/37fd8b37
    • Port - 993
    • Server requires SSL is selected
  4. Confirm or update your Outgoing email server info:
    • Outgoing email server - http://sm.att.com/6673da8a
    • Port - 465
    • Server requires SSL is selected
    • Outgoing server requires authentication is selected
  5. Use the same username and enter your password to send and receive email.
  6. Close your settings.

Let us know if this helps!

Please feel free to reach out to us for further assistance.

I am dealing with this EXACT issue!

Today, I methodically changed tons of passwords due to the AT&T data breach and obviously I changed my email password and now I can’t get any of my emails to download onto my iPhone. Nothing since I change my password!

AT&T, YOU need to provide some very specific instructions for those of us with iPhones! What we need to do to get our emails to resume downloading after we change our email password!

#dobetter!!! #notacceptable!!
