I don’t believe the original iPhone could ever be unlocked.

As in the original iPhone from 2007?  If yes for some reason, that phone shouldn't work on ATT network.

no. what im saying is

1. go to unlock portal --- wwww.att.com/deviceunlock

2. select "no" with the question "are you an ATT customer?"

3. then follow the process

The phone is to old.....  They are not unlocking the og iphone anymore....  Att no longer has a 2g network and scrubbed those imeis from the database.
