3800HGV-B gateway rebooting

For the last few weeks while we are watching TV, our residential gateway automatically reboots so we lose our phone, TV, wi-fi.  Is anyone else having this problem?  We have had it since 2009 if that helps.

I've had mine since 7/08 and have no problems with it.  I'd Contact ATT Uverse Care on the link in my signature.

Send them a private message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your Uverse service RG rebooting problems. They are available M-F 8am-11pm Eastern time (also around on weekends), response may take up to 2 business days.

This is not the regular CS/TS phone people, but the social media Community Specialists that know the people to contact to get things done. I personally know as they've helped me on a DVR swap.

Include your account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.

Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply. Good luck 😉

Sounds like you are having a possible dirty power problem or interference on the Uverse line causing the reboots.

May be something like this from ScotMac:

Have you notice the occurrances in the context of other events in your home, possibly outside your home, and (really happens) something in a neighbor's house?

A neighbor with a new kilowatt linear for his Ham or CB radio?

Maybe a blinky streetlight?

Any electrically-operated workout gear in your home (or neighbor's)?

Aquariums?

Heating Pads?

Light Dimmers?

Touch-control lamps?

Dusk/Dawn sensors on the porch?

Any new CFL bulbs (OK to be green, as long as you don't watch TV or listen to AM radio ... j/k ...)

Or from SomeJoe:

* Power line interference, such as:
* Fluorescent light ballasts
* High-intensity gas discharge lights like mercury vapor
* Grounding problems, such as improper ground at the NID, the pedestal, etc.
* Electrical system grounding problems, such as improper ground on the RG's outlet, the breaker panel, etc.
* HAM radio broadcasts in the HF band
* AM radio transmissions, such as a nearby radio station

For dirty power, a TrippLite Isobar Surge Protector can help:

Some Techs actually carry these on their trucks as it can be a problem.  Good luck 😉

That's about the same time when mine started about a month ago.  I can say it has nothing to do with at least 3 of the neighboring houses as they are vacant and they have been for at least 4 months and this problem just started.  I did send a message to ATT Uverse Care and am waiting on a response.

FWIW, I am having the same problem and have had a technician to my house who replaced both the RG as well as the UPS system. Neither of which fixed the problem. The box is rebooting at arbitrary times throughout the day.

I have a tech coming out tomorrow afternoon so will see what happens.  I followed mibrnsurg's advice and contcted the ATT U-verse care through the private message system on here and they checked out my gateway issue and saw where it was rebooting.  They were the one's that scheduled the technician appointment for tomorrow.  You might want to private message them and see if they have any solutions for you since you just had a technician out.

I think my problem could be solved? No help from ATT U verse care on this forum of course!!

I have two important questions.
When your router reboots do you notice that the power light is blinking shortly afterwards?
During your replacements - has the technician replaced both the router and power-adapter?

The reason I ask- I had a 3801 as well, tech came out 1 week ago and just replaced the router with
another 3801- he simply unplugged all the wires/cables etc and plugged in the new one. My daily
reboots continued. I called in again on Friday the 6th and tech showed up on the 7th. This time I
asked him to replace the power adaptor because replacing the router didn't fix the problem.

All I can say is - I haven't had a reboot since Sat. 3:30pm after tech replaced the power adaptor.
It's still too early to tell, but I've been running roughly 31 hours with no reboot. I haven't done
that in awhile. If I go another 31 hours - I'm going to pour myself a nice tall drink and celebrate.

I'll post back in a day or two and let you know.

The tech just replaced the gateway with a newer 3801 and did the same thing plugged everythign back in that was plugged in the old one.  He did tell me that there were some outages in my area, but he also thought since I am running numerous things wireless that could cause some of it.  My new one has been running 3 days 11 hours with no reboot yet.

Hopefully this will be my last post about my rebooting issue. It has been over 5 days without any reboots. The fix for my issue was replacing the power adaptor to the router. I noticed that my power light would blink fast right after a reboot, but I didn't know if that was normal. I'm going to say if it's power related like mine was it will blink, if it's not power related your power light most likely will stay solid. Hopefully this will help other users determine if they have a faulty power adaptor as well.

Peace-out, until next time.

I recently upgraded from the 3800 to the NVG model. If the 3801 doesn't work, it's my understanding that the NVG models are the newest. You may have to "pull some teeth" to get one, but it may be worth any effort.
