flashing on and off

Have you checked to make sure that you don't have a button that is sticking a little? Something like that could be causing the device to think the button is being pressed and therefore waking the device up as soon as it tries to go to sleep. I'm not familiar with the device you have, but I have seen something like that cause similar issues on othere devices.
