Cannot unlock device due to website technical issues

@ATTMobilityCare ,

Hi,

i paid off a phone and it now is ready for unlocking. But when I tried to unlock, after I provide the imei number I get an error saying: website is experiencing technical difficulties. This has been a persistent issue for over one day.

 Please advise.

Good morning, @ajnaresh. This is not the experience we want you to have, and we're here to help. 

Here are some troubleshooting steps we recommend:

  • Clear your browser history, cookies, and cache. This will refresh your browser and help it to run more smoothly. 
  • Use a different browser to access the page. Depending on which browser you are using, there may be compatibility issues between the browser and the website. 
  • Be sure to check your device unlock eligibility. Though you have paid for your device in full, the wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days, and you must wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request.

I have e the same experience. But it still said technical issue all the time. I just bought second  iPhone, unfortunately it’s so locked att usa. I tried to unlock it but still unsuccessful. Can u check it for me? No iMEI 355402938333340. Really appreciate your help!

If you’re trying to access the unlocking website from outside of the U.S., try using a U.S. based VPN.

Also, please edit your post to remove your IMEI.  AT&T isn’t going to “check it” for you.

@Evainieva Since you unwisely posted your IMEI, I put it in the online portal and it said there was still a payment plan associated with the phone.

Did you buy it used? If so, the original owner didn't pay it off. If you know the person, tell them to pay AT&T so you can unlock or make them give your money back. 

If you don't know them, did you buy from a reputable site (ebay, swappa, etc.)? If so, use the return policy to get your money back. If you bought it elsewhere, you pretty much have a wifi only device.

I have repeatedly tried to unlock my phone which I paid off fully over a week ago. On my account my phone is flagged as "unlock eligible" so I do not understand the problem. Every time I try to input my information (name, pin, IMEI, email) it locks me out for 24hrs saying that I have tried too many times, despite only having tried once in that 24hr period. I know I am inputting the correct details so this is particularly frustrating. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Paid off my phone. Did unlock request 48 hours after paying it off. Still getting "you tried too many times. try again in 24 hours." Anybody know what to do?

    @whyarephonessoexpensive , Hopefully you had your issue resolved. What I tried was to chat with ATT person here. I've had a positive experience so far using their help and support.

For others experiencing this issue, call AT&T and ask for Technical Support. Don't let the robot keep you on the line. Just keep asking for Technical Support. Don't talk to a sales rep or customer service. Don't chat. Call in the morning if you can due to faster wait times. Make sure you get Technical Support then say, "I am trying to unlock my device, but the website is having technical issues. I need you to help me with  a manual unlock." AT&T can do a manual unlock from Technical Support. Did I say you need Technical Support?
