Asus Rog 8 Phone

I've have the Rog 6 and 7 phones and haven't had an issue with them at all. I pop the sim card in and it works like a charm. So when I bought the 8 I looked and the specs said it was compatible with AT&T. I just got the phone today and popped the sim card in and got a text from AT&T saying this:

Hi, it's AT&T. The device you tried to activate does not work on our network. We're here to help. Go to att.com/device for more info and learn how to stay connected.

How do I go about getting my phone to work?

The simple answer is Asus hasn't had the device certified yet. Seems to me it's been out for more than a month so I'm a little surprised they have not submitted request for certification before the phone came out.

Did they ever resolve this issue for you? I too was interested in purchasing one.

Yes and no. I can do things on line with it now but I can't make or receive calls. Everything else works

Gotchya. In the last two days AT&T has clearly made some changes because my Rog 6 Pro has randomly stopped working if I keep 5G enabled. If I toggle it on, it will work for a minute and then kick me off the entire network all and all. Of course, I never had that issue before. That being said; after endless hours of troubleshooting and trying everything that is physically possible by me, ATT, and even changing sims, the final thing I figured out on my own was that if I disable 5G, the phone works normally.

You may want to give that a try and see if perhaps you can at least get by until updates are pushed.

Separately, I have heard of people ordering the USA version on Amazon and instead getting the International version that is unlocked, and they had issues because of that. Double check your model numbers properly to ensure you were sent what you ordered.

And lastly, make sure you have VoLTE enabled if you haven't tried that yet to resolve your issues.

Sorry to message again, but somebody else said they were able to make voice work properly by enabling VoLTE as I mentioned by doing it this way:

Dailing *#*#3642623344#*#* on the dialpad

Well, AT&T requires VoLTE, so if your phone does not have it enabled, it will not make or receive calls properly.

Got my ROG 8, US Version, from Newegg. It worked on the ATNT network for 3 weeks, popped my simcard in. Now no calls, can still text, and use mobile data, but cant receive/send calls. Have tried the VOLTE number, as well as restarting, swapping sim slots, and disabling 5G. Any thoughts?

Nope.

If it's not compatible, it won't get voice calls.

Just cross your fingers and hope that the FCC forces a national wide Bill similar to SB 822. This would prohibit carriers from excluding non-harmful devices.

Huawei and ZTE family will still be excluded because they are still banned in the USA

Thx for the response @formerlyknownas

I opened a ticket with ASUS via their online chat and email, and they said they will escalate and look into if they can give me any answers on if/when it will be certified. I replied back with a screenshot straight from their shop that they are still currently advertising the ROG 8 as AT&T Compatible and it's just blatantly false until they get it certified. I'm sitting here frustrated because I have a $1,000 brick (Albiet, works great for my tiktok/video marketing editing that is the reason I got it) that my cell # can't pair to. Unfortunately AT&T is the only option for GSM service in my rural area, so I'm out of options if ASUS doesn't certify .

I am not saying I hold no responsibility for not doing more research before buying, but when the Rog 2, 3, and 5 Pro I had all worked great AND the Asus shop itself is saying the US Version that I got should be working on AT&T, well.... yea. F me.

I could deal with it awhile if I know it will be certified, but I'm nearing the end of my 1 month return on the US version at Newegg, if they even take it back.
