Dead Zone

My husband has recently taken a job out of state. The apartment he has rented seems to be a dead zone. We have never had an issue with AT&T until now. What do you suggest we can do to fix the situation?

Hello @jsherwood27 ,

We understand how important is to be connected and let's get the help you need.

Try resetting your network settings.

  • If you're using iOS, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • On Android, go to Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Reset network settings.
  • Switch on and turn off the Airplane mode.
  • Make sure your device software is up to date.

Hope this helps! Feel free to revert for any further questions.

I'll give it a shot but I do believe that when I had attack on the phone he did all this already.

Hey @jsherwood27,

Thank you for your reply, we would also like to suggest few more alternatives for the situation.

  1. Wi-Fi Calling:Wi-Fi calling:
    • Most modern smartphones support Wi-Fi calling. Enable this feature on your husband’s phone:
      • For Android: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network > Advanced > Wi-Fi Calling and turn it on.
      • For iPhone: Go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling and enable it.
    • Wi-Fi calling allows your phone to make calls and send texts over a Wi-Fi network instead of relying solely on cellular signal.
  2. External Antennas or Signal Boosters:Cell booster:
    • Consider using an external antenna or signal booster. These devices can enhance the cellular signal by capturing it outside the building and amplifying it indoors.

Hope this helps! Feel free to revert for any further questions.

So I have to spend over $100 on a cell signal booster. I have had AT&T for many many years and have never had such a problem.

Get home internet for the apartment and use wifi calling and data.... the monthly cost for internet from local provider over 12 months would be much greater than one time purchase of signal booster.

Your husband moved to an area where AT&T doesn’t have good cell coverage.  It’s as simple as that.  It’s likely not going to get better anytime soon, if ever.  So your options are limited to using WiFi calling, or a cell booster, neither of which may be an ideal solution, or change to a different carrier with better coverage.  What other options were you looking for?

Thank you all. Those are the options I have already explored just hoping that someone could give me insight on something I hadn't already thought about. I just find it crazy that my stepdaughter's phone from MetroPCS worked just fine but my husband's phone from AT&T doesn't work at all. It's just kind of frustrating having one of the top two carriers and not being able to get signal 😔

All carriers have dead zones and areas where one carrier is better than another.  Metro PCS is T-mobile, but there are undoubtedly other areas where AT&T has a good signal, but T-mobile doesn’t.  That’s the nature of cell phones.

I have had AT&T for many many years and have never had such a problem.

That's because you'd never been to this apartment before. That would have been a good thing to check before renting that particular apartment...

Realistically, no one has perfect coverage everywhere.  But that's what you're paying for cellular coverage for.

Maybe porting his number to a different carrier to see how that works for him would be the way to go.

If it worked well when he is back in the state, perhaps moving everyone on the plan to that plan would be another option.
