Not Recieving Calls

I have had this problem with 2 Samsung phones now. 3 different places I lived (same city) and always have 4-5 bars. In 2 or more years (probably more). SOMETIMES A CALL WILL GO THROUGH, but very rarely (like once every 3-4 months). I can make calls just fine, but my mom, my boyfriend, and others all have to text me to call them if they want something.

Hi @cutielou22,

Thanks for reaching out! Allow us to assist.

Please let us know what device you have currently, and whether or not it's updated with the latest software. Also, what are your family members hearing/seeing when they attempt to call you? Is there a specific error message when they try? This will help us determine the potential cause behind the issue.

We look forward to your response!

Samsung S8 and is up to date. We have done tests and when they call my phone does nothing and there phone just rings until it hangs up. We did another one recently and realized I dont have a voice mail set up (so maybe if I set this up they can at least leave a message).

No error messages ever given to either of us.

Hello @cutielou22,

Thank you for informing us.

We'll need some more details in order for us to better assist you:

  • How long has this been going on?
  • How exactly are you being notified when you don't receive these phone calls?
  • Are you getting any missed call notifications on your cell phone?
  • What is the zip code for the area where you're experiencing this issue?
  • Have you tried calling your phone number from a different cell phone lately, to see if you receive the phone call, or a missed call notification?
  • Also, are you not getting phone calls from all phone numbers, or does this only occur with certain specific contacts?

Please let us know.

Having voicemail messages that correspond to all of these missed calls will definitely help you get more information on why this could be happening.

You can follow the steps at this link to Set up voicemail on your Samsung Galaxy S8.

We also recommend following the steps at this link to Troubleshoot issues with making or receiving phone calls.

Hope this helps!

How long has this been going on? 2-3 years off and on.

How exactly are you being notified when you don't receive these phone calls?
When its family they tell me or text me. If its someone else I wouldnt know (unless they tell me to expect there call).

Are you getting any missed call notifications on your cell phone?
No I am not getting informed in any way on my phone. Only by the people getting mad I dont anwser their calls. Haha

What is the zip code for the area where you're experiencing this issue?
68776

Have you tried calling your phone number from a different cell phone lately, to see if you receive the phone call, or a missed call notification?
We tried yesterday side by side and it worked. We did several times in a row all went through. The last one (our 4th or 5th try) we were worried it wouldnt go through - it eventually started ringing on my end, but took a while.

Also, are you not getting phone calls from all phone numbers, or does this only occur with certain specific contacts?
I am guessing its with all contacts. Its spotty so I cant be sure with this question.

Hi @cutielou22,

Thank you for clarifying for us.

We want to make sure an app isn't causing this problem. With that in mind, we recommend booting your device up in safe mode. To do so:

  • Turn off your device
  • Press and hold the Power key past the model screen name
  • When "SAMSUNG" appears, release the Power key.
  • After releasing the power key, press and hold the Volume down key
  • Continue to hold until the phone finishes restarting
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner; release the volume down key when you see this

Once in safe mode, try and test a few calls. If you are able to receive calls normally in safe mode, then one of your apps is causing the issue. If the issue still persists, please let us know. Thank you!

Thank you for your reply. As of right now, it seems to be working. Just got a call from my doctor.

I did NOT try running my phone in safe mode, but I will definitely keep this in mind when I know the issue is happening again. I never really thought another app could be interfering. I really appreciate the idea and help.

I did mess with my APN settings a little (a couple days ago) - this should not affect phone calls though right?

Greetings @cutielou22,

We're happy to hear that your phone is up and running right now. If the issue happens again feel free to try running your phone on safe mode, then feel free to reach back out.
