What is the capacity of email-to-sms gateway?

I am doing a project for a club that would like to implement email-to-sms messaging to send text messages at medium-volume to our members. I was wondering what are the capacity constraints for how many messages we can send (per minute, per hour) through an email-to-sms gateway?

Hey @benokeefe, we understand that you would like to know the capacity of emails to text, let’s get the help you need.

The number of emails varies based on your email client.

External Client (Outlook, etc.) - 500 messages per day limit. No limit to the number of recipients per individual message.

Attachment limits - max 25 MB per message, max 50 file attachments

Email recipient limits - 100 recipients in the to/cc field will be treated like 100 emails.

Hi @benokeefe! Thank you for reaching out to us! We hear you, and are happy to assist you!

To send an email as a text message to an AT&T wireless number, you can compose a new email and enter the recipient's 10-digit wireless number followed by `@txt.att.net`. For example, if the recipient's number is 555-123-4567, the email address would be `5551234567@txt.att.net`. For picture or video messages, use the same format but send to `@mms.att.net`.

Hi,

Thank you for the response! What could I expect the volume of messages that I send through a email-to-text gateway to be before I would see issues with deliverability? For example would I expect 5 message per minute before messages would not deliver to users.

Thank you!

Thank you! This insight is extremely helpful! I have two small follow-up questions:

Are there email clients that have higher message per day volumes? And if so, which email client has the highest volume?

You mentioned there is no limit on the number of recipients per individual message but that multiple recipients in the email are treated as 100 different emails. So, would this mean that if I send the same message to two different phone numbers, this would count as 1 message in my per-day limit or 2 messages in my per-day limit?

Thank you for your timely responses and help!

Hey @benokeefe, thank you for writing back to us, let's get the help you need.

To answer your question,

We recommend using outlook as mentioned before there is 500 messages per day limit. No limit to the number of recipients per individual message.

If you are sending the emails to two different recipients, it will be considered as 2 emails sent.
