PROTEST PRICE INCREASE

I just received the email on the price increase for Internet. You are requiring me to now apply a debit card# or bank account# on my account to avoid an additional $5/mo increase and you have shown that you cannot protect my private information! REALLY??

I have been an internet customer for 13 years. What more am I receiving with these recent increases?

  • My internet speed has not been increased.
  • ATT has left me using the same gateway for 11 years, which has been out of support for going on 5 years, thus not receiving security updates and potentially leaving me open to hacking attacks.
  • Management of support and outage service has been inconsistent at best.

The requirement to apply a debit card# or bank account# for payment is a major issue when I cannot have confidence that the information is safe. A credit card# at least gives me a level of fraud protection which I should not have to pay an extra $5/mo for!

They are REDUCING the amount of optional discount they are providing. This is combating increased cost from the credit card companies. This is NOT a increase of the rates they charge. As a note, other providers got rid of the discount completely instead of just reducing it like AT&T did.

Nothing obligates them to give you any discount. Understand the difference bettwen charges and discounts. Also seems a bit of an overaction for a measly $5.

I disagree.  It is in an increase and the email states it as such.  They claim it’s offset by choosing autopay but I already use it so if the price of the service increases, then that’s that.
I realize people come to Att as new customers because price can be cheaper than Comcast, so Att must be comfortable they can get away with it.

HA HA! Great spin, Juniper. You should work for the Whitehouse! 🤣

If it's a "measly $5" maybe you would like to Paypal me $5/mo indefinitely to offset it.

It is not a $5 INCREASE.  Your discount was cut by $5 if you use a CC.*

* Why is this so difficult to understand?

Some people only want to believe what they believe regardless of facts. Comcast, and other providers/carriers have done the same thing with autopay because there are just too many issues now with credit cards. It's paperless billing with payment by either a debit card or bank withdrawal. They have removed the discount for using a credit cards in favor of what has been mentioned.

We’ll see when the time comes.  I’m not using a CC and I see what’s in the notification.

Regardless, nothing to be done about it, and OBTW, no one is absolving Comcast of anything.  They are just as guilty as any other.

It is the reality of the situation, not a spin. They could have just removed the discount completely. They are not obligated to give you any discount at all. Just like I'm not obligated to pay any part of your service. In the end, you pay for it not AT&T, not I, nobody else. You don't like it, go somewhere else.

Yes it to you is an increase in what you are paying. But they didn't increase their rates only reduce a discount, which as mentioned other companies have removed. So either you switch autopay methods to get the bigger discount or keep as is with the reduced discount. Or switch providers and get no discount. Your choice.

@gr8sho  I wasn't absolving Comcast of anything. I was just pointing out that it's not unique to AT&T.

For some it is a rate increase then offset by autopay discount increase.  My email today on Sunday 28 Apr 24 says price is increasing and autopay discount is not being removed but increased.

Pasted:

Hi      ,

Starting June 9, 2024, we’re increasing the price of your internet plan by $5/mo. To help offset the impact of this change, we're also increasing the AutoPay and paperless billing discount.

Not enrolled in AutoPay and paperless billing?
You can save $5/mo. if you sign up and use a credit card as your AutoPay payment method or save $10/mo. if you use a debit card or bank account.

Enrolled in AutoPay and paperless billing but with a credit card?
You can save an extra $5/mo. on your internet plan by changing your payment method from a credit card to a debit card or bank account.

Already enrolled in AutoPay and paperless billing with a debit card or bank account?
You’re all set and you won’t see an increase in your monthly bill.
