I had called AT&T Customer Service and the CS agent told me they were incompatible. Maybe I should call again. It seems like you can call 5 times, and probably get 5 different answers...

I got my 9y old daughter a Pantech Link. Got it for $30 on the AT&T website under the GoPhone area. Even though it was meant to be used as prepaid, just slip your postpaid SIM in and it works. The Pantech link looks just like a BlackBerry and used A-GPS for location. My experience is that Family Map will locate the Pantech to about 15 yards.

I had to have Purchase Blocker added to all my lines because of a scam that was hitting Minnesota and North Dakota AT&T users. We were getting unsolicited text messages to subscribe to an unwanted service and we were getting billed $9.99 per line for these unwanted text messages. So Purchase Blocker solved that problem. What I wasn't aware of is that this also means that ...

If the WiFi on the iPhone is being abused at home, go into you wireless router settings and do various restrictions there.

Yes, it can be tracked, however the accuracy will be so bad, that about all you will know, is if the phone is within about a 2 mile circular area. You really need GPS to have any good accuracy.

Family map needs a few things to happen before it works with any accuracy: 1) The phone must have a GPS receiver and have clear view of the sky (generally does NOT work indoors). 2) The phone must be on a data plan. 3) The phone must be on. 4) The stars, planets, and moon must be in alignment :-)

A couple of years back, when I was with T-Mobile, I used an UMA (Wi-Fi calling) enabled phone. It was the slickest thing ever. I teach at a college campus where there is no cell reception in any of the buildings. But with a T-Mobile UMA enabled phone, a person has coverage practically everywhere on the WiFi enabled campus. Several staff people and students that I know hav...

I just added a refurbished Pantech Link that I procured from AT&T online GoPhone. (You can now get for $25). Tossed the prepaid SIM. Put in a postpaid SIM procured from eBay for $1. Called AT&T CS and added a line of service and told the CS rep that I was supplying my own phone. No problem. I only added a 200 text messages for $5 plan. No "$20 minimum messaging plan" requ...

The Pantech Link does have AGPS. So are you saying that my daughter's Pantech Link must have data turned on to send some data (presumably Lat/Lon coordinates) back to the ATT servers for an accurate location? Tower triangulation alone won't cut it. I heard that is far from accurate.

I am giving my daughter a Pantech Link. The phone is 3G and has AGPS. However I have the Data-Opt Out feature turned on. Does FamilyMap work if Data-Opt Out (data block) feature is turned on? I am not going to spend the money on FamilyMap if it isn't going to work without data.

I am giving my daughter her first phone, a Pantech Link, for her birthday in a couple of weeks. I added her as a $10 line to our family plan and giving her 200 messages for $5. I put a data block as well as smart limits on the line as I don't want ANY surprises. I have been testing the phone out. Voice calls and text messages work as expected. Data applications do not, as...
