I forgot one more thing... If the trip to a store is a headache, why not simply upgrade online? It's painless to use the OLAM for this purpose, and you will often see more phones/better selection than you will in stores.

Keep in mind, most Apple refurbs you obtain from ATT will be nearly indistinguishable from new, are normally of very high quality *and* have a 12 month warranty, overlapping with the standard 90 day ATT refurb warranty. In that sense, they are a great deal, especially considering you get the piece of mind that Apple will also provide you with a replacement via OOWS (out o...

Out of curiosity, what happens when you travel to another site (not your home) with a free, open WLAN? Do you see the name of the access point when the WLAN scanning is on? Just trying to get a sense if it's the hardware or your access point.

Just for kicks take a look at your phone's proxy settings. Disable that temporarily if you can, then reboot the phone and try to connect again to the unsecured WLAN. This is a bit boggling to me, since my wife's E71x has had absolutely no issues whatsoever connecting to a wide variety of wifi access ponts/networks. Where I work it's WPA2 and the phone connects quite seamle...

You would be better served starting a new thread on this separate topic. Until the mods move it, you could help us by being more verbose about *how* exactly you are attempting to check email. Which email provider? Which software? Which apps are you using? etc, etc. We don't read minds . cheers, Pedro p.s. glad to hear Skype is working for you.

My understanding is that mobile speed tests are somewhat inaccurate. Throw in the facts that speeds differ a whole lot from one area to the next, not to mention they vary by time of day and congestion upstream. In this regard I wouldn't throw out the baby with the bathwater just yet cheers, Pedro

Keep in mind the infrastucture is funded differently than Japan. They also take a more long term approach to such buildouts than we typically do in the U.S. Their government provides tax incentives for buildout on a national scale that is not done in the U.S., not to mention you have to factor in the much greater space that has to be covered here. This isn't to imply our '...
