I only rant because honey didn't work - as the recent poster indicated, he asked, was told he would get it, was not, then got into the hell of DTV's customer service and catch 22. If asking the installer was all that was required, we wouldn't have several threads on this. Also - if the HR34 wasn't so bad, people wouldn't be demanding the HR44. DTV is creating this problem...

That's not true. As he said - he requested an HR44 and got an HR34. DirecTV told him that they would get him the HR44, they lied to get him to sign on. Just because they don't actually have the ability to do this does not change the fact that they misrepresented this to him. And please don't say they didn't guarantee it - he clearly stated that the initial salesperson sai...

And you should use this to get them to refund the equipment fee they charged you so that you can apply it to buy an HR44 yourself from SolidSignal. This is the *only* way that you are guaranteed to get one.

OK Fiberguy123, No need to debate or re-state the earlier thread contents - these are now indisputable facts: 1) DirecTV will misrepresent their products to you, including the following examples: a) they can provide an HR44 ("No problem") b) if you buy the equipment protection plan they will upgrade you to an HR44 (demonstrated as a lie) c) the HR44 is the same speed as t...

Peds - did you not see the Solid Signal video (posted above) that shows two new units one an HR34 and the other HR44 side by side with the HR44 completely blowing the HR34 away in speed and interactivity? Did you not read our first hand reports of HR44 being faster than HR34 ever was? At least I can believe the DTV CSRs are being lied to and that can explain their denial,...

Hey Humbleliver - on the contrary - in my case and many other posted on these forums the Equipment Protection Plan is not providing HR44s to replace HR34s under any circumstances. Not only is it their policy not to do so - even if they want to override they can't get the automated system to ship a non-equivalent replacement unit.

Use this forum to push them to get you an HR44 - it will fix the speed problem for sure. WRT OTA - I have an AM21 tuner that plugs into the USB slot on the HR44 and it works fine. I haven't tried to record content, but I get all the OTA content. Based on experiences of other posters - to get an HR44 you will need to either: - get a truck to roll to your house and convince...

Peds - I'm going to call you "Mr. Twisty" from now on if you don't mind... Google Fiber uses coax if you already have it in the house, but will install Cat5e Ethernet cable if you don't, as detailed in Google's installation prep guide here: support-dot-google-dot-com/fiber/answer/2657583?hl=en They have nicely supported my argument, which is: coax is legacy, Ethernet is f...

You are twisting the facts - coax from the street is different than coax inside the house to all clients. Even DTV is trying to get to wifi as fast as they can for the in-house clients. So - again - why does it make sense for DTV's software team to force customers to have an in-house client connected via coax? It doesn't make any sense at all.

When (not if) there is a major disruptor company in TV like Apple, Amazon, or someone new - do you think they'll base their solution on coax or Ethernet? I'm not denying that you need some coax today - it's necessary. However, I argue that it should be minimized, as it's not the way of the future. Right now, with DTV's technology - I've been able to take it to an absolute...

On the contrary, it's pretty clear that all new DTV will have Ethernet connectivity. This is true for so many reasons, a couple of them: - All SoCs from CPU vendors contain an Ethernet PHY - it's automatically supported - Every other media company is using Ethernet, not Coax, and the number of competitors is growing So - you'd be foolish IMO not to install Ethernet cables...

litzdog911 wrote: Not sure what points you're trying to prove, no_target. Of course the HR44 is faster than the HR34 because it uses newer and faster technology. But you're not going change DirecTV's approach ... I am more optimistic that we will change DTV's approach to this because their approach is so clearly abusing their loyal customers. I think we need to bring this...

OK - so, I'm back to the theory that HDCP is the problem - your baluns and Onkyo both may not support the use of HDCP, which would be what distinguishes the HR44 from the XBOX and DVD player - the HR44 uses HDCP to protect content. I'd suggest researching that as the source of the problem - find out if the Onkyo and baluns support HDCP.
