I have a genie (HR44) and every time a new show starts a message appears on the screen telling me I can press the orange record button to record. Is there a way to remove this annoying message? Thanks.

The recordings might be programmed as repeats and your DVR is set to record New Recordings only. Go to Manage Recordings > Record Defaults and I would set: Episode Type: All Recordings, Keep at Most: All Episodes, Keep Until: Disk Full, Start and Stop times set as you see fit. I do this manually.

If you have the protection plan, call and ask for a service call. Do not delete your recordings so you can show them to the tech. When the tech calls to confirm that day, make sure she or he has a 44 on the truck.

The tech came out and said that this problem is a product of a bad hard drive. Interesting that I would have the same problem with 2 different HR34s but I'm hoping the 44 will solve the problem.

In this case they didn't want to send a tech out; they said they preferred to replace the receiver since it was only happening on the Genie and only happening on recordings (live TV was never a problem).

I thought I would post an update to this thread in case anyone else has the same problem. DTV has replaced my Genie. It's strange that they don't have any kind of system in place to view the files when the customer has a way to record what is being seen on the screen.
