For what it's worth, the HR44 has a few additional features, but few people find them useful. Performance-wise, they both perform well, and the HR44 is just slightly faster. Think of it this way, if the speed of the HR44 is a 10, and the HR23 is a 5, the HR34 is a 9.9. Unless you want one of the new features, you'll be just as happy with the HR34.

This is an age-old gimmick and there is little that can be done. The problem is, this is advertising, and you are taking the word "latest" to mean what it literally means. Corporate marketing has decided they will define what "latest" means. They can, and do, decide that more than one DVR is considered "latest". Even when you order a new DVR, DirecTV does not tell you whi...

Thanks, that was a great idea. However the internal drive was fine, but I did find an issue with another HR20, so thanks for the tip. I'll get that one fixed. I'm now on more recent firmware and the problem remains. I cannot believe this has persisted, unless it is unique to me and my old HR20? Calling technical support resulted in the bizarre advice to program shows to s...

Again, a little kindness would be helpful. I came here wondering the same thing, and the noise to signal ratio was very high. This is a waste of time for me and all other users. You contribute a ton of useful information, and we are all thankful for that. Clearly all that needed to be stated was the new firmware provides a fixed set of apps, and no customization or app st...

There are three "problems" here: 1) The DVR Help feature still says to access the apps store, which no longer exists. 2) Tech support should be aware of the removal of this feature to communicate to customers. 3) The reduction/removal of the TV apps feature was poorly advertised, causing messages like the one at the start of this thread. This thread is a valid problem. An...

@dcd You are correct, sorry. @peds I've noticed you have supplied many useful answers, but you also supplied answers that are not helpful, or just wrong. Evidently there is some point system on this board, and I could care less. I try to be helpful when I can, and I do not answer questions when I don't know the answer. I've posted one wrong answer as far as I know, and I ...

1. Try running the installer as an Administrator 2. Try installing a good codec package, like K-Light first, then try to install Directv2PC.

It has always worked with my Dell XPS L702X's display port adapter. I use a display port -> DVI converter cable.

I do not think that it true. I got no picture on my laptop but my DVI connected monitor works fine. The message I get when trying to view on my laptop is "Unknown output connector. Supported connectors are: DVI, HDMI, Japanese D terminal output, Component Video, S video, Composite Video and Analog RGB.

"Google TV does not support DirecTV"? @peds48 is wrong once again. And "don't worry about it"? What kind of advice is that? Just run HDMI from DirecTV to Google TV, then out to your television. Go through Google TV setup and tell it which DirecTV model you have. Works fine. You can even program the Showcase app with the channels you get on DirecTV. If you don't have an go...

dcd wrote: And, possibly most importantly, some of the currently available set top boxes have no Ethernet port, so "in the long run" you're better off with a standard conventional supported Whole Home DVR system using the DECA system. If excessive cables etc were a problem, if you put together a system composed of HR34, HR24 and C31, you wouldn't need any DECA modules at ...
