You stated in the post " Now, DirecTV ignoring a preference is annoying " I am simply letting you know that the setting you changed, was only to stop Power saving mode Ill reiterate just to ensure that you do...

I would like to point out, You can disable the power saving mode (Where the receiver goes into standby mode after not using it for the last 4 hours) But The DIRECTV logo screensaver can't be totally disabled. (Where DTV logo bounces around the screen)

Does it happen on those two channels at certain times of day? or just whenever you're on the channels? As far as the problem being with the signal from the local affiliates, it could very well be that, but normally they would fix it fast, or it would be a known issue to all the techs you speak with other the phone.

With the Genie remote (RC71) there is no button comparable to the green button on the white universal, that being said, you should be able to still use the white universal for some functions on the Genie, if you still have any.

Im about 90% sure the HR34 Doesn't require a DECA just like the HR24, so make sure you haven't hooked it up, it should be the one that has the coax running into a rectangular box with an Ethernet cord on the opposite side along with a coax cable, so if you have it hooked up remove it, and just hook up the coax to the genie, although I'm a little fuzzy on it right now, so ...
