Well, calling it "beta" is a crock (not arguing that they don't, just that's not really beta software) -- maybe "not officially supported". DirecTV2PC has been out since 2008, and it's still regularly updated. It was updated several times in the last year, in fact, largely I think to properly support Whole Home DVRs like my HR34... last fall, when I started using it, it h...

Kinda thought that's what I was doing here. Are there no actual DirecTV people supporting their own forums? Second problem: I have yet to find anyone at DirecTV who understands their systems in slightest. Obviously, such people exist, but they don't seem to be allowed into customer support, and they don't, far as I know, have an actual technical support service. Last time...

Thanks again, but this is simply not what I'm experiencing on my machine. This just happened one day -- no one has access to this computer but me. This is my personal system, in my locked office, and no one else in my household would have the knowledge to get into this system, much less any motivation. I guarantee you this happened by itself. It seemed to occur after an a...

You probably have not entered your first and last names in your profile. Without those, you get a cryptic message that has absolutely no information leading you to discover this omission. But that's usually the problem.

Thanks for trying, but that's not how it works. At the Edit Settings page, you can't actually change anything. You have to select select one o the left-hand-menu options ("Unlock Now", "Ratings", "Hours") to actually make any changes. Selecting any of these brings up a 4-box entry for the passcode before I'm presented with the editing interfaces -- there is no way to get ...

Ok, so I've been using DirecTV2PC successfully, more or less, since last October. Just yesterday, it randomly started asking for a passcode, as if Parental Controls were enabled. They never have been on my STB (HR34). So I looked here, found someone with a similar problem, followed the advice of setting up a passcode on my receiver, despite it never having one before. No ...

Incorrect. Pixel density is not the same thing as information density. You can render an informational display in 1920x1080 that's perfectly understandable when viewed on an SD display. My point about the EPG was obviously meant as an example. The Dish Network display in HD mode is relatively high in information density, thus somewhat dependent on the higher resolution of...

Just to make the point, the HD video downconversion works just dandy... the remote SDTV and local HDTV both display the same content. You're claiming that the UI is the problem; they have different overlays which don't get dowmconverted automatically. And rather than just run both...given that the video itself is already correct, they insist on blocking the SD screen when...

Yes, that's the message I get when I try to Add the TV as an RVU client. When I opt to Replace one of my C31s, the TV works just dandy. But of course I still have only two RVU devices. Following that advice, calling DirecTV, gets me nowhere. No one I have able to talk with in customer support seems to have a clue about how RVU networking actually works. They won't simply ...

Ok... so last month, I replaced my failed DLP with a shiny new Sony KDL-70R550A. The R550A series all have certified RVU support built in. I have an HR34 receiver, I put the R550A on the same network as the HR34's built-in bridge (in lieu of a secondary DECA unit, which is completely unnecessary), and I proceed to attempt to add the R550A as a new RVU device, along with m...

Ok... I'm kind of frustrated with the stupid behavior of my HR34. Lemme 'splain. Last year, I had a Dish Network system. The main receiver was run via HDMI to my HDTV, and in addition, a CVBS (composite) output plus analog stereo ran to a 2.4GHz video sender, to drive a small TV in my kitchen. The receiver down-converted the HD video as expected, no problems, no drama. La...

Of course, if you're connecting Ethernet right at the HR34, you can use the RJ45 jack on the HR34, which does the same bridging job from Ethernet to Coax that a separate DECA does, like the CCK. Installers are usually provided with a CCK anyway, largely because the HR34 may not be installed anywhere near a router. All you need is one bridge between the home network and th...
