Another observation since I last visited this thread. There is no option on manual records for keeping a certain number of episodes. You have to do that in RECORD DEFAULTS before creating a recurring manual. Since most of my manuals are news programs I have the default set to "1 episode." The Sony server is back now, but it did show up in the guide (568+ and 1568) before it actually came back. The selection is a shell of its former self. I see 1501 even though I'm not an HBO subscriber. I do subscribe to SONYHD ch. 1568 and that one has disappeared for me while 568 remains. I'm looking at ALL CHANNELS in the GUIDE. Go figure. I ran the SMART Short Test again today and it PASSED! I haven't had any problems since November. I suspected there might have been a change in humidity since then, but NO! I'm not so sure that can affect the mechanics of hard drives unless it is a severe change.

The reason I lack urgency is that none of the content can be saved anyway! My old 2008 TiVo did allow me to save files to a PC, but I'm not certain the newer ones do. I've been contemplating discontinuing DTV, because I believe the internet offers more bang for the buck. What better time to quit than when the DVR fails?

I've read in other threads that the people answering the phones don't even know what the SMART short test is! They might ask you to run the INFO test which my DVR passes. Here's what I did that broke the loop. I have both HDMI and component cables attached to my DVR. When this happens with protected content, HDMI must either be active or disconnected. I tried to download and watch the buggy VOD again today, now that the 10/2-10/8 trial is over. The problem is the same. I called DTV technical support and all they could tell me was that it is a known issue and that they are working on it.:smileyangry:
