Both 1080i and 1080p were checked. Unchecking 1080i worked. Leaving them both checked and using a different cable also worked. Thanks.

Since the TV is turned on second, I don't understand how it could be losing the handshake. It would appear that it never acquires it. I got the Genie on Saturday; my HR24 had no problem turning on the TV. The Genie remote does not have a Format button; you have to use the Info menu. I have not tried a new cable. Changing the resolution with the front panel does make the p...

If the Genie is on, there is no picture. The TV has to be turned on first.

Genie HR44 - 500 Receiver. Genie RC71 remote. Sony Bravia KDL-46EX600 TV connected to Genie with an HDMI cable. If I use the Genie remote to turn on both the Genie and the TV, there is no picture. Changing the TV input from the Genie to another input and back does not give a picture. Unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it back in does give the picture. If the TV is alr...

I've been using Stretch for a year, but DirecTV just replaced my receiver (the old one's fan was making a lot of noise), so I was playing with the settings. I'm going to try Pillar Box and switch to Crop for those SD channels that are using letterbox. Thanks to everyone for your help.

Pillar Box, Stretch, and Crop all work as expected. I have the manual for my Sony Bravia KDL-46EX600. There is a button to change the "Wide Mode" setting. For 4:3 source, the choices are Wide Zoom, Normal, Full, and Zoom. Normal is normal, Full is stretched, Zoom is cropped, and Wide Zoom is a cross between Zoom and Full. Normal is only available for 480i and 480p. For 16...

With an SD channel, Native off, and Original Format, my Sony HDTV thinks it is receiving a wide-screen picture and won't let me select the normal width 4:3 setting. The picture looks the same as when I choose Stretch on the receiver.

Thank you. So, my TV settings affect how the picture is displayed when I select "Original Format". Regarding where it says "Original format sends only the video signal", I take it that is different from setting Native to On. But, could you please explain the difference?

I have a HR24/100 HD DVR. I have Native set to "Off". The choices for Screen Format are Pillar Box, Stretch, Crop, and Original Format. What does Original Format do? On the channel I tried, it seemed to be the same as stretch. Is there was an easy way to cycle through the format settings without also cycling through the resolutions? The Format button on the remote and the...
