Dumb logic points to it being intentional. Directv prides themselves on customer service AND it costs them money when people call in complaining about equipment. So they want the stuff to work. Like others have said it's a software bug and it's being worked on. Its not intentional because it would benefit DTV in no way for it to be on purpose.

Advertising doesn't generate revenue for Directv. They make most of their money off of people paying for their service not broadcasters selling advertising to them. Broadcast networks make their money by selling ad space. That is why they care about ratings for TV shows. The higher the ratings the more they can charge for ads. That isn't how DTV makes money. Directv doesn't make money from advertisers, networks do. So its not to their advantage for equipment to freeze up on advertising. Its a software issue nothing more than that. The HR54 is the same as a 44 except it has a built-in swim power inserter and has no buttons on the front. I highly doubt we're gonna see HTML5 anytime soon.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable and see if that solves it permanently. You can also swap HDMI cables and see if that fixes it. If it does then it may be the cables.

This, you need a band stop filter. The d12 is getting the whole home and internet info and it cant handle it so its giving you sfss. You can call dtv and they can send you one for free if the d12 is active.
