Can someone tell me what happens when I take my iPhone 6 with WiFi calling outside the US and connect to a foreign wifi network. ATT literature has both said that you can't use it outside the US and that they block it only in countries where VOIP is illegal. They also warn us that calls made outside the US and certain US territories will be billed at higher rates. Hypothe...

Times are changing, but old habits die hard in the industry. Data rates and unlimited calling/texting are the "copy paper" of the cellular industry. Staples, OfficeMax-Depot, have to keep those prices aggressive so there is a tendency to try to make things up on the baggage fees/extras. Roaming fees are falling worldwide and carriers will need to compete. The unfortunate t...

I pay $20 a month for Nation Plus Canada and have avoided going to unlimited minutes and talk plans to keep it. I would love to see this. Folks in Buffalo New York have access to a special Canadian plan for 1 cent a minute for calls made in Canada. Unfortunately, Detroit's border with Canada is not considered substantial enough even though we have the two largest border cr...

I think this issue depends on who you ask. To me, it is exceptionally important to have Canadia treated the same as the US. My wife works in Canada fourteen weeks a year and possibly more than that. I practice law in Detroit Michigan and am affiliated with a Canadian law firm practicing the same type of law in neighboring Windsor Ontario. We are both certified commuters b...

The thing that drives me crazy is that my iPhone prefers Canadian LTE signals over US 2g signals which in the Eastern UP is a problem.

Clearly ATT is ramping things up in Mexico. IUSAcell is actually the number two player in Mexico. Carlo Slim's Telcel is actually number one. Mexico permitted ATT to make this purchase to make the competititon more serious in Mexico. Mr. Slim has expanded Telcel into the US so I presume that there will be competiton on this front. When you add to it the fact that TMobile ...

To a certain extent you are "preaching to the choir." Most of us are other subscribers and get no special treatment from ATT. I'm grandfathered on their closed international unlimited plan which similarly gives me unlimited US data (together with all the rest of the countries) ATT was pressured to change its interpretation from automatic throttling to as needed throttling...

ATT data packs (if the country is covered) are designed for smartphone usage. Laptops take considerably more data. Make sure that this is what you want. You may be better renting a hotspot for that country or buying a prepaid SIM while you are there.

While you should never include any PII ("personal identifiable information"), some reference to your make of phone and the town you are in would help. In some communities doing things like turning off LTE and forcing your phone to HSPA may help. If a community is slated for a build out, we might be able to also help you. I know you are at the point of frustration, but we ...

I go to Ionia on business fairly regularly and haven't noticed any coverage gaps. Ten years ago I lost coverage right as M-66 dipped down heading into the city. That is no longer the case. I don't pretend to be an Ionia resident and haven't tested it everywhere, but I've gotten fine coverage on M-66, in the downtown, and out near the prisons on Bluewater Hwy.

Just remember the roaming fees. Mobile-to mobile is not an exception to roaming fees. If you don't switch your data off, buy a roaming package for your data. Many people have had rude surprises who have used their phone in Europe like they were back in the States.

There is bleed over US coverage in Niagara Falls, ON. If you don't need 24/7 perfect coverage, go into your network settings and manual lock your phone on the ATT signal. You should be fine. You may need to walk closer to the Falls for a signal. Remember if your phone says "Roger, Bell, or Telus" you are locked on a Canadian tower. The problem on this forum is you don't k...

About 1/3 of the time, international calls show up with bad caller-ids. There are a lot of places where the data can get dropped. Just as importantly, some calling card services don't pass on caller-id. In China in particular, there are a number of unlicensed VOIP based calling card services. They are very popular and much cheaper than the official way to call.

It will work just fine, but will be costly. 200 megs of Eoropean data will run you Apx $200. Look at xcomglobal -- they rent country specific MiFis for about $17 a day. You can do cheaper with an unlocked MiFi and local prepaids.

Have your friend send a text message to another ATT phone and to a friend with somebody else's service. I agree with the other poster that they are very hard to run down. There are many free texting apps out there if your friend in OZ is using a smartphone. I use Whatsapp to text my best friend in Dubai. It saves us both international texting, but there is also TextPlus, ...

You can greatly reduce your charges if you do it correctly. First, you need to understand the problem. When you call your phone normally and the call goes to voicemail, there is a conditional call forward which says if the phone does not answer the phone send the call onto voicemail. When this happens in the US, ATT eats the charge and there is no problem. When you go to ...

ATT charges $1.69 or $1.99 to roam in the Domnican Republic depending on whether you have ATT World Traveler on. Inbound text messages come out of her bucket of minutes. For outbound, you can buy 50 outbound text messages for $10. ATT sells buckets of megabytes for the Dominican Republic: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/affordable-world-packages.js...

The US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are not considered roaming. You can use your phone in Puerto Rico just like you were on the mainland. Conversely, the Marianas and Guam are considered roaming.

I have an eKit roaming SIM which gives me a UK (Jersey) and US number. On my SIM, inbound calls are $0.19 on the US number in most countries and free on the UK number. This is what eKit charges. As far as ATT is concerned, the number that eKit issues is a standard Mass. number and there is no surcharge for calling that number. I just ran my number through TNID.org and it ...
