Well, if the seller wasn't pulling a fast one on you, it should work. Are you inserting the sim card correcty - in the correct position?

Hey, AT&T - in your spec sheet you say that the Torch 9810 has an FM Radio. Built-in FM Radio  Pants on fire. NO it doesn't. Yeah, I know AT&T doesn't read these forums, but I feel better now...

Yes, I don't understand all of the problems. I got mine for free, brought it home, plugged it in to my FIOS router, and was up and running in 15 minutes. Never had any problems.

Yeah, I got one for free a few weeks ago. Got it on a Friday night and expected to wrestle with it all weekend. Well, after three different phones you have to think of another problem. It's not hardware. It's not software. It's headware. What are you doing to cause this that no other people are doing? Sorry, but the odds of you getting three bad phones while other people are not subject to your issue are slim to none.
