OK - I now have ADSL service (6mbps) and my kids are killing the internet bandwidth. Would like to upgrade to U-Verse, but need to retain my Apple 802.11n router and repeater setup. We have a large house and this is the only wireless solution (of several that we tried over the years) that has reliably worked and provides the range we need. I'm really not interested in sta...

Epilogue - I got a new H24 receiver last week from SolidSignal, and installed it myself. Called DTV to activate and it works just fine. Moved the standard receiver into the new feed location and it works just fine as well. Highly recommend SS. Tom

I will likely end up going with SS or equivalent. DTV is not interested in cutting a deal, so there is no reason to go through them. Thanks. Tom

Oh, and BTW...thanks to all for the replies here. One way or another the issue will get resolved. Tom

It was a response to one of the earlier replies, in which the writer has the ability to order equipment from DTV without mandatory tech visits. I plan to give DTV a day or two and see what their response is to my e-mail, then if no luck will order from one of the on-line dealers. Tom

Just as I thought...tried an on-line receiver order with DTV and it not only forces a $49 installation fee, it forces an "HD capable" dish as well (with installation, too, of course). My account info says I have an HD receiver but it doesn't know I have a compatible dish to go with it? UNbelievable. Tom

Ah, I get it now. No discounts were offered...that's why the installation bit burned me up. Essentially that means they want $150 for a new receiver. One more question since you seem to know what's up...I assume that a phone line connection is not an absolute requirement for the new HD receivers? I know PPV validates through the phone line, but we don't plan on any of tha...

Did not pay anything for the HD receiver, except the monthly access fee. Why would cost for that receiver impact anything I do with a third receiver (access and programming charges aside)? Will try that, but my fear is the on-line system will enforce the same thing the rep is telling me (she said "the system" will not allow additional equipment orders without installation). I ran into the same thing with the new dish last year...I had installed the previous system myself and it worked just fine for 15 years, but I could not complete an on-line order for a n...

I'm paying full price ($10/mo for the HD receiver and then whatever programming packages cost). The HD dish was put in late last year and has four outputs. We don't use DVR, so, it's only one cable per receiver and there is already coax from the dish to the new location. Don't have any splitters - don't need them. It's literally a plug in and activate scenario. Infuriatin...

We currently have two receivers (one standard and one HD). Want to get a second HD receiver to replace the standard, and move the standard receiver into another room, which is already properly cabled. We would then have three receivers, so DTV insists on "installing" because it's an additional receiver. I know why they say this - because the average schmo probably can't h...

DirecTV refuses to send me a new receiver without banging me $49 for "installation" and sending a tech out. We have a new HD dish (installed within last six months) and the house is properly cabled for satellite TV. I am more than capable of connecting a coax cable and activating a receiver, yet they insist. I don't really need to take a day off work and pay for someone t...
