If you're going to be out of the country for almost a year I'd remove yourself from the family plan. Trying to use a phone outside of the USA just causes headaches. Your wifi will still work as long as your have an access point nearby to connect to. Most people who go outside of the USA rely on Skype, KIK, or Pinger to keep in contact with people.

Using a VPN will just make it look like your traffic is coming from somewhere else. If your main IP address get's ddosed then you will get kicked offline. If you have DSL most of the time they use dynamic ip's. Customers who have Uverse have a static IP. My question is what are you even doing in the first place to be ddosed?

at&t redirects me to this web page telling me something is wrong with my internet. It gives me a rediulous ip address that doesn't come from the regular ip address pool when I reset my router. each router must have a different ip address... and when you say you get a bad signal at 60ft im assuming you're trying to extend your wireless network? if you connect the 2 routers LAN-LAN you must disable DHCP so the first router will assign an ip address to whatever connects to the second one. make sure the wireless channels are at least 5 apart i.e. if you had 3 wirel...

most router/modem default gateways are 192.168.1.254. so you would enter http://192.168.1.254 in a web browser to access your settings
