Thanks for keeping the thread updated. Too many other threads just end with no clue as to how things turned out.

ATT is having a tremendous problem with fraud lately. For some reason it's easier to open a fraudulent line in someone else's account than it is to get help with your own account. That's why they're flagging accounts so much. It's the Nigeria of the wireless industry.

If you paid by credit card, call your company to reverse the charges. If you pay by direct debit from your bank account then you're making a big mistake because then you can't get money back when there's a messup. Don't use direct debit.

The reps lied to you. This is very very common. Please update the thread if your FTC or AG complaints produce results. (The BBB are paid by ATT, not the customers, and might get you a call back but you are not likely to get help.)

Why should corporate care? They make more money when sales reps trick customers.

That shouldn't be happening. Try a different ATT SIM and if it works then you just need a new SIM. If a different SIM also doesn't work then the phone is the problem.

The truth is that you don't have an unlimited plan. It's limited, even though you pay for unlimited. It's dishonest but that's what they do.

It's not locked to your account, it's locked to ATT. So as long as the buyer uses it on ATT it will work.

Answer is no. And if any sales rep says yes, they're lying. And if you don't think sales reps lie, spend 2 minutes browsing these forums and you'll know. Stay with T-Mo.

It's fraud. The rep gets a commission, you get scammed, and ATT couldn't care less. You need legal advice, which isn't allowed in this forum.

There's no way to find out. Even the ATT reps don't know. I found this out after going back and forth for a month about why I kept missing calls. ATT responded by replacing my SIM card and filing multiple 'cases' which went nowhere. After a month they escalated the issue to a higher level network engineer who looked at his system and said, "Oh yeah, we have a tower not wor...

Problem solved. We dad a cross-upgrade to a line we had at home. Then did the same thing again. Result: In-laws lines still work and some activated devices for sale.

It is possible to record conversations in lots of ways, with a separate device, on the phone itself, with an interposed callback service, by conferencing in a Google voice line, using Sipdroid, or even just by holding a recorder up to the phone. If your friend is worried she's being recorded she should assume she is.

I'm as sure as possible for a non-employee. Maybe call 611 to check.

Yes, you activate the new phone and SIM, then you take the new SIM and put it in your old phone and it will work. Then the new phone will work with any other ATT SIM even if it isn't your account. You have to be careful about SIM sizes though, the new phones come with a smaller SIM. Sometimes you can put a small SIM in an old phone with an adaptor, or a large SIM in a newe...

Just got an email that ATT will waive voice & text overage for people in affected areas through November 30. Nice!
