The A107 is a cheap ($10) dual-band phone. It's not worth the hassle of trying to unlock as I don't think Indian carriers support the 850/1900 GSM band anyway.

Or how about change the pay per use data rates to a more reasonable amount and allow it on both smartphones and feature phones? I'd say around $0.20/MB ($0.01/50KB) seems reasonable ($5/50MB=$0.10/MB, $15/200MB=$0.075/MB, $25/1GB=$0.025/MB). It's really quite unfair that smartphone users on pay as you go plans were suddenly cut off from the data plans without warning.

Never said it was fair. Heck, if I hadn't been following the forums closely I wouldn't even know of the change. I never received any notification on 4 lines with data package add-ons (each with 400-600MB). Used up all the data watching Netflix. Alas, I don't think there's much of a legal recourse here since it's not covered by the service agreement.

I suggest you just get a Google Voice number with the area code you want and forward calls and messages to your GoPhone number. Heck, this way if you get fed up with AT&T, you could easily keep your GV number without having to deal with the hassle of number porting.

How is "how are you doing" considered a simple instruction? That's one silly question that's better suited for Siri. As for the earlier, last I tried, Android couldn't interpret something like that. However, you could use voice commands to send a text message or email and then use dictation to write the message/email. Refill, *888* + pin number + # then press send.

If your phone is unlocked and supports UMTS/WCDMA 850/1900, then yeah, it should work on AT&T 3G.

If you're not connected to wi-fi and AT&T doesn't consider your phone a smartphone, then the charge is $0.01/5KB. That $4.44 is equivalent to around 2MB of data use. Yep, checking your email can certainly use that. Heck, I think I normally use 10MB or so when checking my email (a bunch of messages with a lot of graphics).

Since I will be in the U.S. for three weeks this seems perfect, and 1 GB of data is also the right data plan. Does ...

Have you set up the APN on your phone? One thing I've noticed with the unlocked phones I've had was that the APN isn't provisioned automatically. There should be some posts on this board regarding the correct APN settings or you could always Google for AT&T APN. On my iPad and it's a pain trying to look up information.

The DataConnect 5GB/$60 plan is only available for postpaid customers. For folks on prepaid, the largest allocation is the DataConnect Month Pass 1GB for $50. Personally, if you already have an unlocked Android smartphone running on Froyo (2.2) or higher, you can just get an ordinary AT&T GoPhone SIM card and use the tethering/hotspot function of the phone. The cost per M...

You should be able to. I restored my iPod Touch 4G and iPad 2 from my iPhone back-up and app data stayed intact (even if I did have to re-install some of the apps manually). Might want to install iOS 5 on your Touch first, if you haven't already.

You're required to have a data plan but you can switch between the different data plans every month if you so wish. The text message, there are only two options - pay per use or unlimited (either per line or for the whole family). Unfortunately, AT&T has gotten rid of tiered messaging packages. You can switch any time you want.

Lol, this is funny: iPhone Ping: 128ms Down: 1.79Mbps Up: 0.69Mbps LG Thrive (tethered to iPhone) Ping: 171ms Down: 2.02Mbps Up: 0.70Mbps The devices were tested directly after each other and the same server was used in SpeedTest. Lots of iPhone users here so it's probably impossible to do a more consistent test. I don't have my iPad with me right now so I can't test with...
