texasguy37 wrote: "If more than one person watches and records programming from the same TV, which is typical in many households, you have a shared resource. Why would the ability to create private directories not be needed in that situation?" Good point - as I said the suggestion would further improve U-verse function over competitive offerings (in the case of a single ...

Regarding the configuration cost, my configuration with 2 TVs and 2 DVRs cost and extra $15.95 for the second DVR. I could record 4 programs simultaneously, and combination of SD or HD. With U-verse, I cannot record more than 3 HD programs simultaneously or more than 2 SD programs. Sometimes (as in my original posting), U-verse is more restrictive than CATV. Personally, a...

Keep in mind that my baseline would be that if a household had 5 TVs connected to 5 CATV DVRs there could be 10 recordings simultanously in p...

Thanks, but I think the comparison of function should be made on the customer's full configuration rather than DVR-DVR. JefferMC wrote: "While every CATV DVR I've seen is limited to 2 channels of HD or SD, the U-verse DVR can record four streams and all but one may be HD. Thus its capacity is in excess of the competitors. By adding an DVR (usually at a large additional mo...

I apologize for my faulty recollection: consulting my tri-fold marketing brochure I do find the key phrase 'up to 4 programs'. IMO it's technically-legal marketing hype to pump customer expectations, but it is technically legal. Thanks for the sytem info navigation and explanations. I have two TVs configured, phone service and internet access. Performance has not been an ...

So I just discovered that my DVR attached TV can't display live HDTV programs when recording 3 HD programs. I seem to recall that AT&T U-verse advertisements claim that 'you can record 4 programs at once.' Excuse me for asking, but why is that not a false advertising claim? What's a VRAD, and why I am expected to know this?

jimgfitzgerald - thanks for the personal advice - I may do so. As I explained above, I am evaluating U-verse - I apologize if I assault the sensibilities of any U-verse enthusiasts. I hope that AT&T pays some attention to the comments and suggestions available on these boards - I constructively offer my own with the hopes that U-verse might eventually address them to im...

texasguy37 - I stand corrected to the extent that the non-DVR can pause live TV while recording, but there is at least some condition we've encountered that prevented use of the pause function. I'm sorry I don't have the specific message or condition - I'll let you know what they are if/when the reoccur. In the meantime, does U-verse claim that there is no condition that ...

After having U-verse installed two days ago and immediately noticing that non-DVR receivers (am I required to know what a 'stbs' is?) could not pause live TV I was appalled. After that niight's software update with the announcement that non-DVR recievers could now pause live TV, I was even more appalled that the feature didn't work when a program was being recorded! A no...

Two areas where U-verse device sensitivity can produce continuous failures during installation... I very recently had U-verse professionally installed on my two TVs by AT&T, reusing existing cabling. Everything was working fine when the installer left. Then it began to rain... The DVR began 'freezing up', ignoring all command input - including the 'power' button. The othe...
