Since the issue didn't appear with your daughter's phone it seems like it's an issue specific to your wife's phone. If it's still happeneing, try removing & reinserting the SIM card (turn the phone off first). If that doesn't help, reset the phone's settings Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings. It sounds like this is a feature of your phone you'll need to spend a little time with to become comfortable with. The scrolling of screens can be a little sensitive to new users but I'm sure you'll pick it up in no time!

Definitely do not give this information to the buyer. The phone is locked to AT&T's service but as long as it meets a few requirements, you can request an unlock. You can request the unlock using the form located here: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/
